Course Description
This course is a study of language, literature, composition, and oral communication with a focus
on exploring universal themes across a wide variety of genres. Students use literary
interpretation, analysis, comparisons, and evaluation to read and respond to representative works
of historical or cultural significance appropriate for Grade 10 in classic and contemporary
literature balanced with nonfiction. Students write short stories, responses to literature,
expository and argumentative/persuasive compositions, and technical documents. Students
deliver grade‐appropriate oral presentations and access, analyze, and evaluate online
information. Provided from (Reitz High School Website)

Teaching Rationales
I chose every single one of these stories because every single one of them brings something to
the table for every student in my class. From something as old as Of Mice and Men about a
novella taking place from the 30s to a story about the ancient protectors of the kingdom from
Rangers Apprentice: The Ruins of Gorlan. To stick to Reitz High School, as well as the Indiana
state standards, each story was chosen to accompany a Unit that I have in stored for my class.

Student Expectations
Effort and contribution is the only way for any student of any school to advance forward in
learning. To know your expectations as one of my students, the following list is provided below;
 Come to all class meetings prepared and on time
 Treat another student as you treat yourself
 Participation through questions, following directions, and finishing assignments big/small
 Seek help when necessary (You can come to me before or after class, ask questions
during the lesson, or even form groups with peers to study)
 Be aware of where you are in class standing/performance.
 Understand my expectations and my personal methods for your assessment.

Attendance Policy
Students are expected to be on time for class every single day. Students who missed are
responsible for any make up work that needs to be turned into the next meeting. However, I will
permit exceptions to illness or emergencies that may arise.

Academic Integrity:
Plagiarism: is an act or instance of using or closely imitating the language and thoughts of
another author without authorization and the representation of that author's work as one's own, as
by not crediting the original author.
All work submitted for this course must be your own and written exclusively for this course. If
you have any questions regarding this policy, please see me.

Disabilities
Students who have any recorded disability will have accommodations prepared from their
personal IEPs. Everyone has a right to have equal footing within any classroom. Being someone
of disability myself, I am more than happy to provide these sorts of accommodations to any
student who requires it.
Issues of Bullying
If I hear or even witness any signs of bullying within or even outside of my classroom, I will
personally send you or anyone else involved to the principal’s office. It is highly unacceptable to
make fun of, harass, or lay a hand on any of your fellow student’s male, female, race, orientation,
and/or identification.
