Tel.: 022-28713141 * E-mail : srirammandir.srkbs@gmail.com * Web ; www.srkbs.org we Ist October 1968 is an immemorable day, written in Golden letters, in the Annals of Sri Ramakrishna Bhajan Samaj, which came into existence pursuant to a decision taken in the Annual General Meeting held on that day (Vijaya Dasami Day). The seed for establishing a Samaj for Goregaon was sown on the occasion of the visit of His Holiness Sri Shankaracharya of Sringeri Peetham Sri Abhinava Vidyateertha Swamigal during his visit in May 1967, which was later nurtured and sprouted by visionary founders like Late S/Shri S. S. Shankar, K. Harihara Iyer, P. K. Ramachandran & N. Rajagopalan alongwith Shri K. 8. Krishnan and a few others. The Samaj was a result of the amalgamation of two organizations viz. Sri Krishna Gana Sabha and Rama Bhajan Samaj, which was in existence for many years and came under one umbrella. The activities of the Samaj started with conducting regular Bhajans at Vivek Vidyalaya premises and in the houses of devotees. Sri Rama Navami, Janmashtami, Thai Poosam, Skanda Shashti, Sastha Pooja etc. were also celebrated on a small scale. During the Sri Rama Navami festival in 1972, Late Br. Shri K.V. Santanagopalachariar suggested that the Samaj should endeavour to have its own premises and with generous help and contributions from devotees and well wishers, a plot of land at Bangur Nagar was purchased in July 1973. Subsequently, the Bhoomi Pooja for the Samaj's Building was performed at the Holy Hands of H. H. Sri Shankaracharya of Dwaraka Peetham. H. H. Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham, during his visit to Mumbai, camped at Goregaon and performed Chandramouleeswara Swami Pooja and showered His blessings for the success of our project. As destiny would have it, an idol of Lord Vinayaka was presented by a devotee which was installed in a small temporary structure of the Samaj's plot in 1981. Due to the concerted efforts of devotees, a temple was constructed in the year 1984 (with only the ground floor) and the idols of the present presiding deity, Lord Sri Ramachandra Moorthy with his consort Sri Sita Devi, Sri Lakshmana & Aanjaneya in one Sannidanam and Sri Vinayaka and Sri Anjaneya in separate Sannidanams were installed and consecrated according to the Vaideeka Sampradaya on 8th June 1984, During the year 1992, the Managing Committee decided to install and consecrate Nava Grahas also. In the year 2013, Utsava Vigrahas of Lord Subramania alongwith his consorts, Valli & Devayanai (offered by a devotee) were installed in the temple ‘The Managing Committee members from time-to-time, have cherished and reminisced the initiative and efforts of the founder members and have kept their dreams alive by carrying on the task entrusted to them. Thus, feeling the need to have a Community hall to cater toa wider section of people, and to cater to the expanded activities of the Samaj, it was decided to expand the temple by building 1st & 2nd Floors, which was completed in the year 1998, Subsequently during the year 1999, the construction of a Rajagopuram adorning the entrance of our temple was completed, followed by a Mahakumbhabhishekam on 17th February 2000, in the benign presence of H.H. Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal and HLH. Sri Vijayendra Saraswathi Swamigal of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham FOS The Silver Jubilee of the Samaj was celebrated in the year 1993. As the next Kumbhabhishekam was getting delayed due to circumstances beyond control, a Sahasra Shankabhishekam was conducted in the year 2011. The next Mahakumbhabhishekam was conducted from 5th to 8th June 2017, in a grand manner. ‘The Hall on the first floor which has since been air-conditioned (in June 2017) and a lift also installed to provide more comforts and convenience to devotees. The Samaj is in its 50 years of memorable journey this year. Travelling back, it can be observed that the Samaj has taken several strides in its long journey and progressed rapidly till today. Various religious functions are being regularly conducted year after year, notable among them being the Sri Rama Navami, Navarathri, Sastha Preethi ete. which draws devotees from all round not only the suburbs but also from far of places in Mumbai, Sampradaya Bhajans are being conducted every Saturdays, Thirupugazh Bhajans on Sashti days, Abhang Bhajans on Ekadashi Days, Mankadu Bhajans in the months of Aadi, Thai & during Navarathri ete. Chanting of Visnu Sahasranamam on all days and Lalitha Sahasranama on all Pournami days is being done by devotees. The Samaj is also regular in conducting Sita-Rama Kalyanam, Radha-Madhava Kalyanam, Valli-Devayanai Kalyanam and Poorna-Pushkala Kalyanam. An unique feature of our Samaj is that Mahanyasa Rudrabhishekam (11 Aavarthis) is being conducted on every Pradosham & Sankatahara Chaturthi days and on Sivarathri. Sri Ram Mandir has become a much sought after venue for performing Ganapathi Homam, Aayusha Homam and Rudrabhishekam on the devotees special days. Every year a Vishnu Sahasra Nama Yajnam is conducted wherein devotees in large number chant it 16 times. Another feather added to our cap is the tremendous response for booking the chanting the Hanuman Chalisa (21 times) as per devotees request, which draws a cosmopolitan crowd. One outstanding function of the Samaj is the Sastha Preethi function conducted in December every year. It dates back to 25th December 1975, when the Ist Sastha Preethi was conducted in a traditional manner, and even now it is the most eagerly awaited function, drawing devotees from all over Mumbai enabling us to still continue conducting the Laksharchanai. The Silver Jubilee of the Sastha Preethi was celebrated in 2000. ‘The Samaj has started a system of extending medical assistance to the poor and needy and educational aid to the deserving students every year. The Samaj through it devoted volunteers also extends help and assistance to perform cremation and Aparakriya. The present Managing Committee feels honoured and privileged to be at the helm of affairs to conduct the Golden Jubilee Celebrations.
