LYNX Light Rail opens for first ride

What: Ribbon-cutting ceremony kicks off celebration for light rail opening

Who: Philip Dubois, chancellor of UNC Charlotte, will be available for


interviews. Dubois can discuss the following topics:
• Reduced environmental impact
• Increased student opportunities to central city area for culture and
internships
• Improvement to on-campus parking

When: The ribbon-cutting will occur on March 16, 2018, at 9:30 a.m.

Why: Students and the administration will gather to celebrate the


long-awaited opening of the light rail extension on campus. Media will
have the opportunity to photograph attendees as they board the first
official run of the light rail extension from the UNC Charlotte Main Station.

Background: The LYNX Blue Line Extension is a 9.3 mile light rail
connecting UNC Charlotte to neighborhoods throughout the city.
Students and community members have been anticipating access to
LYNX services in the area. The addition of the light rail on campus will
improve transportation between the university and surrounding areas of
Charlotte, opening doors to new opportunities for students and the
community.

Chancellor Philip Dubois will be available on March 16 from 8-10 a.m. for in-person and
phone interviews.
