Reflection

In all the semester we learned many things about Mexican American culture and history, it

was great to take this class because I learned many about my culture which is Mexico, I learned

history I did not know before. There were many modules that we learned about in class but I will

talk about eight outcomes that I learned and that were really important to me , it was the Building

Our Understanding: Culture Insights, Religion, Spirituality and Liberation Theology;

Individuals, Groups, Social Institutions and the Greater Environment, Familial Relationships,

Patterns and Structures, - Prejudice, Racism, Stereotypes and Identity, The Colonization of

Texas, Immigration and Labor, definition of culture, Chicano civil rights movements and about

art.

Culture was the first outcome we talked about, it was really important to me to talk about

because many of us who were in this class, they each are from different cultures and each one

has a different definition of their culture, as my opinion culture is defined as values, beliefs, art,

music, food, dress, we all can have different vales, beliefs, art, dress, food & music it is why we

all from different cultures have differences about culture.

The Colonization of Texas, Immigration and Labor, it was the one most important to me

to learn about, it gave a lot of history about what happened with the Mexico territories, I learned
that people from Mexico and from the united states fought for land and Mexico lost a few land,

that now the land is part of United States and now are states, and as this happened many people

stared to moved to Texas, because there have jobs.

Religion is another very important to me, I learned the history of why is that many of us

Mexican are very religious and most of us believe in the Virgin of Guadalupe, it was great to

watched the video because it give all about how the virgin appeared to Diego in up hill,we all

have different beliefs and have different religion some say it is false and some say it is true but it

is in who believe in the virgin of Guadalupe.

Familial Relationships – we all Mexican have huge families, we have a good relationship, ae

go out together, we do events together and we do parties at our houses, it is very lovely that we

have a great relationship to each other, some are far from families but we all are all the time in

contact.

Art – I learned about art it was something really interesting to me, there were people very

artistic because they did great paintings remembering their culture which Mexico was, I learned

about art the meaning of art, it was very impressionist to watched the video of the art activism, it

gave me great meaning of art.

The Chicano civil right movement was also very great history I learned about, it was

something I did not know before, I was great that it gave the right to education, the right to vote ,

and the right to farm workers, I think before the civil right they had hard times because they did

not have the right to it was very interesting to learn about.

Identity was also another part of history to learn about, it was very interesting of how we

identify our identity because not all of us identify their identity the same, we all are different, we

do not think the same as others, many identify as where they come from and some of them say

that they are from here from the United States.

Greater environment of American and Mexican represent a great history of both cultures of

how we identify our origins of where we come from and how we identify our self as either

Mexicans or Americans and also, we learn a lot of history about America.

It was a pleasure to take this class, I totally learned history that I did not know before about

Mexico and America, as I stared this class, I only thought that I was only going to take this

classes because I needed to take, and this class was going to be essay because I knew about

Mexico but as I was learning a little of history each class, it made realized that even thought I

was born in Mexico and I was raised there for 13 years I did not know a lot of history that I

learned in this class, I really love this class.
