The Tolima Theater is today one of the most emblematic places in Ibagué. It
is the scene of multiple musical and theatrical meetings throughout the year.
The memory of the city is preserved in its structure, since over a hundred
years this site has defined the department's cultural agenda.

Being located in the heart of Ibague, the Tolima Theater is one of the
buildings that shaped the development of the city. It is located on the main
street of the center; this historical scenario is a must for visitors and tourists.

Of course, the Tolima Theater is one of the Department's most precious


assets. To know the history of this monument is to approach the Ibague of
the 20th century.

Initially it was founded with the name of Theater Towers, with capacity for
125 people in the year 1915, then in the year 1926 its name changed to
Departmental Theater and in 1938 it was consolidated as Tolima Theater,
inaugurated in February of 1940.

It was usually used for film projections or some dance or theater


performances. It was declared a National Monument in 1996, date from
which they began their remodeling plans in order to recover the space for
the presentation of scenic events and take advantage of their potential and
finally on July 18, 1997 the Tolima Theater was reopened, thus remaining
with a capacity for 1000 spectators.

The Tolima Theatre has become a spectator of the city's recent history.

today constitute an important architectural axis of Ibagué.
