Dear School Administrator,
‘Thank you for considering me as an elementary teacher in your school district. I greatly
appreciate the opportunity to learn from the students and staff in your district as I approach my
career in education,
My name is Rebecca Kayser, and I will be graduating from South Dakota State University
(SDSU) in May 2018. I am majoring in early childhood education with a minor in music. During
my undergraduate studies, I have been working towards certifications in early childhood
education (birth through age eight) through SDSU and elementary education (kindergarten
through eighth grade) through Dakota State University (DSU). Through my field experiences, I
have come to love teaching students in fourth grade through sixth grade.
1 believe every student has the capacity to learn, achieve, and contribute to the world. I
implement this belief by facilitating learning experiences which include peer discussions, peer
collaboration, individual conferences, real life applications, frequent practice and feedback, and
multiple learning styles. I openly embrace cross-curricular units using current events as a way to
understand the world and practice the skills needed in today’s society. I also frequently utilize
music to aid in learning and retention and peak interest during instruction.
In my most recent student teaching placement, I taught fifth grade math and English language
arts at Camelot Intermediate School in Brookings, SD. My time at Camelot was characterized by
implementing math and language instruction based on formal/informal assessments, students’
needs, and individualized education plans. During times I was not the primary teacher, I co-
taught with my mentor teacher to optimize intervention and enrichment opportunities in the
classroom. Additionally, I participated in student success and special education meetings to form
the best classroom experiences for all learners. Lastly, I communicated with parents about grades
and behaviors through conferences, email, and Class Dojo.
Please feel free to review my e-portfolio (rebeccakayser.weebly.com) and contact me with
questions via email (rebecca.a.kayser@gmail.com) or phone (605-941-4288). I look forward to
working with you, the students, and the staff as I begin my career in education,
Sincerely,
Rabvecca Haper
