Standard #2 Learning Differences

The teacher uses understanding of individual differences and diverse cultures and
communities to ensure inclusive learning environments that allow each learner to reach
his/her full potential.

Standard in my own words


Understanding that all students learn differently and creating lesson designed for students
to reach their full potential.

Description of Artifact
At the beginning of my Teacher Work Sample I gave students a short pre-test to evaluate
their knowledge about the executive branch.

Indicators
2 (c) Designs instruction to build on learners prior knowledge and experiences, allowing
learners to accelerate as they demonstrate their understanding.

Rationale
I met standard 2 (c) because I was able to build my students instruction based on what
they already knew. Constantly teaching students something new keeps them engaged in
the lessons and learning. I learned that re-teaching materials that they already knew and
understood didn’t keep them as engaged as accelerating their learning and building on
prior knowledge that they already had.
