Asa public-school teacher for the past 24 years, | have supervised many student teachers. | have had the opportunity to observe Lauren over the past few months as she teaches in my classroom. We have used the Co-Plan/Co-Teach method in order to team teach. We quickly moved into the One Teach, One Assist method of instruction. She was the lead teacher while | would assist on occasion. At this point, Lauren is fully independent. | have become a full-time observer, giving Lauren feedback after lessons, When Lauren comes to class, she is always well prepared. Itis apparent through her class discussions that Lauren Is a teacher who not only emphasizes academics but is also a person who cares about her students’ well-being. Her empathy for her students manifests itself in the way that she is able to involve her students in discussions and draw out of them experiences from their lives that are relevant to the topic of study. When Lauren comes to class she is always well prepared and punctual. Lauren has great control of the classroom. She is firm, yet compassionate. She listens and yet maintains strong boundaries. She accepts nothing less than respect and attention to what she is teaching and gives the same to her students when. they are sharing their insights and ideas. Right away, she approached working with our students in a proactive, hands-on, experienced way. She has been especially adept at providing literacy support to our EL students, Lauren is not hesitant to motivate students in a variety of ways. She tries to get to know all of the students on a personal level to determine what might motivate them to strive for excellence. | am impressed with Lauren’ ability to think of creative ways to get students to learn and participate in class. Itis to her credit that she has the ability to recognize problems, to seek solutions, and to implement changes to correct the situation. Lauren knows that she is relatively inexperienced but is not reticent to ask others for their input. This, will end itself to the current trend of professional learning communities. Lauren is an extremely intelligent young woman who will continue to grow as a professional. She would be a welcomed addition to any faculty.
