Abstract

The capstone project will look to work with chapter presidents that fall under the

Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) umbrella. Throughout the project, the chapter presidents will

have regularly scheduled meetings to identify areas of strength and weakness within their

chapters. The advisor will look to help facilitate development in those areas that need

improvement by developing programming initiatives, recruitment plans, or academic programs.

The advisor for the MGC organizations needs to be culturally competent and aware of the

challenges these students in culturally based organizations may face at a PWI (Ray, 2013). The

literature has identified some areas advisors need to focus on but the gap in the data does not

assess how an effective culturally competent advisor can improve their organizations

development. Therefore, through student focus groups with the chapter presidents and individual

one-on-ones, the project will seek to understand the need for culturally competent advisors.
