Philosophy of education

I believe that a student-centered philosophy is based solely on what they want to do and learn not

what the state requires teachers to teach them. Though there are many people who would argue

that student-centered philosophies are better the majority of which would be students themselves.

In my personal opinion, the teacher should be the one to set the curriculum for the entire class;

each student should not be allowed to choose what they do for the day. I believe there should be

structure and rules in a classroom and that the teacher should be in control not the students.

I think teachers sometimes forget that they have to teach students of all colors and religions. I am

Jewish so when we had to discuss things concerning Jews the teachers had to make sure they

kept an open mind and did not say negative things that could be taken offensively. I believe that I

will be good at keeping my classroom diverse in all aspects, because I have been in classes many

times where teachers would put in their negative personal opinions about different societies and

religions.

I am fond of there being tests throughout the semester in order to see how well students progress

in a class. I will be teaching Ag so when it comes to tests they may not always be on paper; some

will be hands on like in welding classes teachers need to make sure all students can do a basic

straight-line bead. As far as standardized testing goes, I am glad that I will not have to teach to

that tests curriculum.
