There was something undefined कुछ है जो अप्रिबाप्रषत है

And yet complete in itself. फपय बी सम्ऩण
ू ण है शाश्वत है

Born before heaven and earth. जो धयती औय आकाश से बी ऩहरे से है

Silent and boundless शाॊत औय अऩाय
Standing along without change. स्थथय है शरुआत से
Yet pervading without fail औय फपय बी भौजूद है

Perhaps it is the mother of all things. सब चीजो की उत्ऩस्त्त का कायण है

I do not know its name, भै इसका नाभ नही जानता
But Call it Tao. ऩय इसे ताओ के नाभ से कहता हूॉ

TAO-THE WAY(िाओ-एक रास्िा)

1. Tao that can be spoken of ताओ स्जसे जाना जा सके

is not the eternal Tao वह शाश्वत ताओ नही है
The name that can be named नाभ स्जसे लरमा जा सके
is not a Constant Name वह ननत्म नाभ नही है

If it has a name, अगय इसका नाभ है

it's just another thing तो मह अन्म वथतओ
ु की तयह है
The named is नाभ औय रूऩ ही से
the Mother of all things सब चीजो का अस्थतत्व है उत्ऩस्त्त है

To see the True Essence वाथतप्रवकता को दे खने के लरए

become desire less इच्छाओ को त्माग दो
To see the manifestations लभथ्मा दे खने के लरए
have desires इच्छाओ को यहने दो

These two together emerge इनकी दोनों उत्ऩस्त्त एक है

 They have different name इनके नाभ लबन्न है
yet they are called the same फपय बी मे एक है
Figure them out, सोचो इस फाये भें
and you've got it made औय तभ
ु ऩता रगा रोगे

2. If something looks beautiful to you, अगय कोई चीज़ खफ

ु सयू त है
something else must be ugly तो कोई घणृ णत बी होगी है
If something seems good, अगय कोई चीज़ अच्छी है
something else must seem bad तो कोई फयु ी बी होगी

You can't have something आऩ कुछ नही ऩा सकते

without nothing बफना कुछ खोए
If no job is difficult, अगय कोई काभ भस्ु श्कर नहीॊ है
then no job is easy तो कोई आसन बी नही है
Some things are up high कुछ चीजे ऊऩय होती है
because other things are down low तो कुछ ननचे बी होती है

You know you're listening to music तभ

because it doesn't sound like noise क्मोंफक मह शोय नही है
All that came first, आऩ िथभ आते हो
so there must be next तो कोई फाद भें बी आमेगा

The Masters get the job done साधु भनु न अऩना काभ कय रेते है

When things around them fall apart, जफ प्रवप्ऩनतमा आती है

they stay cool वे धैमण यखते है
They don't own much, उनके ऩास ज्मादा कुछ नही होता
but they use whatever's at hand ऩय जो बी कुछ होता है वे उसका उऩमोग कयते है

They do the work वे कामण कयते है

without expecting any favors बफना फकसी का सभथणन चाहे
When they're done, जफ कामण ऩण
ू ण हो जाता है
they move on to the next job वे अगरे कामण की औय चरे जाते है
Because they does not claim for the credit, क्मोंफक वे इसके श्रेम की अऩेऺा नही कयते
hence shall not lose it इसीलरए उनका कामण ऩण
ू ण यहता है

3. If you toss compliments around freely, अगय आऩ अऩनी फहुत ऩशंसा कयते है
 people will waste your time
trying to impress you
If you give things too much value,
you're going to get ripped off
If you try to please people,
you'll just make them pissed
Do not honor the worthy.
This will keep the people from contention
Do not prize rare things.
This will keep the people from becoming thieves
Do not display the desirable.
The hearts of the people will not be confused
The Master leads by
clearing their minds
and opening their hearts.
He lowers their aspirations
and makes them suck in their guts.
He shows you how to forget
what you know and what you want,
so nobody can push you around.
Stop doing stuff all the time,
and watch what happens.
4. How much Tao is there?
More than you'll ever need.
Use all you want there's plenty more
You can't see Tao,
but it's there;
it’s just always been around
Where that came from,
it seems to be the ancestor of all the things

वे उन्हें लसखाते है बर

जो वे अफ तक जानते है औय जो वे चाहते है
ताफक कोई बी उनका फेवजह पामद न उठा सके
हय वक़्त चीजों की रारसा कयना फॊद कयो
औय दे खो की क्मा घहटत हो यहा है

The Masters are neutral: इसी तयह साधु भनु न बी फकसी का ऩऺ नही रेते
they treat everyone the same वे सबको एक सभान सभझते है

The space between जगह जो की है

heaven and Earth is like a bellows थवगण औय धयती के फीच भें , हवा की तयह है
The shape changes उसका आकाय फदरता है
but not the form; ऩय रूऩ नही
the more it moves, स्जतना मह चरती है
the more it yields उतनी ही मह फदरती है

More words counts less, दभदाय फात भें शब्द कभ होते है

better therefore hold to the core इसी तयह अऩने उसर
ू ों ऩय फने यहना चाहहए

6. Tao is an eternal mystery, ताओ एक शाश्वत यहथम है

and everything starts with Tao. औय हय चीज़ का आयॊ ब ताओ से है
Everybody has Tao in them. मह हय फकसी के अॊदय है
They just have to use it. फस जरुयत है तो ऩहचानने की

7. Tao never stops. Why? मह कबी नही रूकती, क्मों ?

Because it isn't trying क्मोंफक मह कोलशश नही कय यही,
to accomplish anything. फकसी चीज़ को ऩाने की

The Masters hang back. साधु भनु न थवमॊ को फाद भें दे खते है
That's why they're ahead of the game. इसीलरए तो वे सफसे आगे यहते है
They don't hang on to things. वे चीजों ऩय ननबणय नही यहते
That's how they manage to keep them. इसीलरए तो वे उन्हें यखने भें सपर होते है

They don't worry about उन्हें चचॊता नही होती,

what they can't control. स्जस ऩय वे ननमॊत्रण नही यख सकते
That's why they're always satisfied. इसीलरए तो वे हभेशा सॊतष्ु ट यहते है

They put their selves away वे अऩने को ऩयू ी तयह से अरग यखते है
yet they remain इसी लरए तो वे फचे यह जाते है
It is not because they are selfless मह इसलरए नही की वो ननथवाथण है
but, that they are self-realized इसलरए की वे थवमॊ के िनत जागरूक है

8. "Doing the right thing" is like water. “सही कामण कयना” जर की तयह है
It's good for all living things, मह सफके लरए अच्छा है
and flows without thinking about औय फहता है वहा बफना फकसी की ऩयवाह फकमे,
 where it's going जहा वह जाता है
...just like Tao. ताओ की तयह

Keep your feet on the ground. अऩने ऩैय जभीन ऩय यखो औय

Remember what's important. जागरूक यहो की क्मा जरूयी है
Be there वह यहो,
when people need you. जफ रोगो को तम्
ु हायी आवश्मकता हो
Say what you mean. कहो स्जसका कुछ तात्ऩमण हो
Be prepared for anything. हय चीज़ के लरए तैमाय यहो

Do whatever you can, कयो जो तभ

ु कय सकते हो
whenever it needs doing. जफ उसको होना चाहहए
If you don't compete अगय तभ
ु िनतथऩधाण नही कयोगे,
yourself to others, औयो के साथ
nobody can compete to you. तो कोई तम्
ु हाये साथ बी कोई नही कये गा

9. As for holding to fullness, ज्मादा बयने से अच्छा है

better to stop in time. सभम यहते रुक जाना
If you drink too much, अगय तभ
ु ज्मादा ऩी रेते हो
you get drunk. तो तभ
ु नशे भें धत
ु हो जाओगे

If you hoard wealth, अगय तभ

you fall into its clutches
If you crave success,
you succumb to failure.
ु ज्मादा सॊऩस्त्त जभा कयोगे
. तो तभ
ु उसके अन्दय आसक्त हो जाओगे
अगय तभ
ु लसपण सपरता की काभना कयोगे
तो असपरता भें उरझ जाओगे

Do what you have to do, जो तभ

ु कयना चाहते हो उसे कयो
then walk away. फपय आगे फढ़ जाओ
This is the way of Tao मही तो ताओ का याथता है

10. Can you hold on क्मा तभ

ु ऩकड जभा सकते हो
to your ego अऩने अहॊकाय ऩय
and still stay focused on Tao? औय अफ बी ताओ ऩय केस्न्ित यह सकते हो

In gathering your vital energy जो तभ

ु कयते हो अऩनी जीवन शस्क्त का सॊग्रह
to attain suppleness, जीवन भें अनक
ु ु रशीरता ऩाने के लरए
Have you reached the क्मा तभ
ु फने हो एक
state of a new born baby फच्चे की तयह

Can you check yourself क्मा तभ

ु थवमॊ का ननयीऺण कय सकते हो
and see past what's in front of your eyes? औय दे ख सकते हो की तम्
ु हाये साभने क्मा है
 Can you be a leader क्मा तभ
ु एक नेता हो सकते हो
and not try to prove you're in charge? बफना खद
ु को व्मवथथाऩक सभझे

Can you deal with क्मा तभ

ु सभझ सकते हो
what's happening and let it happen? जो हो यहा औय क्मा उसे होने दे सकते हो
Can you forget क्मा तभ
ु बर
ू सकते हो
what you know जो तभ
ु जानते हो
and understand what's real? औय उसे सभझ सकते हो जो वाथतप्रवक है

Can you feed क्मा तभ

ु ऩोषण कय सकते हो
you people without अऩने रोगो का
owning them for your own? उनको तम्
ु हाया कजणदाय सभझे बफना

Have things वथतओ

ु को यख सकते हो
without holding on to them, बफना उनभे आसक्त हुए
Do the job कामण कय सकते हो
without expectation of reward. बफना उसका पर चाहे
Lead people नेतत्ृ व कय सकते हो
without giving orders. हुक्भ हदए बफना

That's the way you do it. मही तो सब सही कयने का याथता है

11. A wheel has spokes, एक ऩहहमे के अॊदय ताड़िमा होती है

but it rotates around a hollow center. ऩय वह एक खोखरी नरी के चायो तयप घभ
ू ता है
A pot is made out of clay or glass, एक फतणन लभटटी का फना होता है
but you keep things in the space inside. ऩय हभ जर उसके अॊदय यखते है

A house is made of wood or brick, एक घय ईटो औय रकिी से फना होता है

but you live in empty space between the walls. ऩय हभ यहते तो दीवायों के बफच की खारी जगह भें
We work with something, हभ फकसी वथतु ऩय काभ कयते है
but we use nothing. औय फकसी चीज़ का इथतेभार कयते है ,
जो की है कुछ बी नही

12. Sight obscures. दृस्ष्ट धध

ुॊ राती है
Noise deafens. ध्वनी फहयाती है

Desire messes with your heart. इच्छाए ह्रदम के साथ खेरती है

The world messes with your mind. औय मे सॊसाय हभाये भन के साथ
A Master watches the world ऩय एक साधु भनु न इन सफ को दे खता है
but keeps focused on what's real. औय जो वाथतप्रवक है उसी ऩय एकाग्र यहता है
13. Winning can be just as bad as losing. प्रवजमी होना कबी कबी हयने जैसा फयु ा बी हो सकता है
Confidence can mess you up आत्भप्रवश्वास आऩको उतना ही झकझोय सकता है ,
just as much as fear. स्जतना की डय

What does इसका क्मा भतरफ है की

"winning can be just as bad as losing" mean? “ स्जतना कबी कबी हयने जैसा फयु ा बी हो सकता है ”
If you're down, जफ तभु हाये हुए होते हो
you might be able to get up. तो तभु कोलशश कयके ऊऩय उठ सकते हो
But if you're up, रेफकन जफ तभ
ु ऊऩय ही होते हो तो
you can get knocked down real fast. तभ
ु जल्दी से ननचे चगयते हो

Don't worry about the score, हाय जीत की ऩयवाह भत कयो

What does इसका क्मा भतरफ है की

"confidence can mess you up
just as much as fear" mean?
Fear can keep you from getting the job done,
but confidence can get you in over your head.

Deal with what you can. जो तभ

The rest will follow. फाफक सब अऩने आऩ होता आ जामेगा

14. You can't see Tao, तभ

ु ताओ को दे ख नही सकते
no matter how hard you lo. चाहे फकतने बी ध्मान से दे खो
You can't hear Tao, तभ
ु उसे सन
ु नही सकते
no matter how hard you listen. चाहे फकतने बी ध्मान से सन
ु ने की कोलशश कयो
You can't hold on to Tao, तभ
ु उसे ऩकड नही ऩाओगे
no matter how hard you grab. चाहे फकतनी बी जोय से ऩकिो

Stand before it इसको दे खो

and there is no beginning. इसका कोई आयॊ ब नही है
Follow it इसके साथ चरो
and there is no end. इसका कोई अॊत नही है

But it's there. ऩय मह है

It's in you, मह तभ
ु भें बी है
 and it's all around you. औय तम्
ु हाये चायो तयप बी है

Move with the present. वतणभान को सभझो

The ability to know the primeval beginning औय तम्
ु हे आहदकार तक का ऻान हो जामेगा
This is called the thread running through the way इसे ही कहते है वक़्त की ऩहहमा

15. The ancient Masters िाचीन साधु भनु न

were damn impressive. फहुत ही िबावशारी होते थे
They were deep. वे फहुत ही भग्न होते थे
Real deep. फहुत ही गहयाई से प्रवचाय कयते थे

Words can't even begin to describe हभ इसको शब्दों भें नही फता सकते
how deep they were. की वो फकतने गहन थे
You can only talk about how they acted. हभ तो लसपण इस फाये भें फाते कयते है की वो कैसे थे

They were careful, वे सावधान होते थे

like a man walking on thin ice. जैसे की एक फपण ऩय चरता हुआ आदभी
They were cautious, वे सतकण होते थे
like a soldier behind enemy lines. जैसे की एक जवान दश्ु भन के इराके भें होता है
They were polite, वे प्रवनभण होते थे
like a guest at a party. जैसे की एक भेहभान होता है
They moved quickly, वे तेज होते थे
like melting ice. जैसे की फपण प्रऩघरती है
They were as plain वे सभतर होते थे
as a block of wood. जैसे की एक रकिी का टुकिा
Their minds were as wide as a valley, उनका भन घाटी स्जतना गहया होता था
and their hearts as clear as spring water. औय उनका ह्रदम झयने के जर जैसा ननभणर

Can you wait for that kind of openness and clarity क्मा आऩ ऐसी सहजता औय ननभणरता का इॊतजाय सकते है
before you try to understand the world? इस सॊसाय को सभझने से ऩहरे
Can you hold still until events have unfolded क्मा आऩ कामण कयने से ऩहरे
before you do the right thing? सही सभम का इॊतजाय कय सकते है

When you act without expectations, जफ आऩ पर की इच्छा के बफना कामण कयते है

you can accomplish great things. तफ आऩ भहान कामण कयते है

16. Keep your head clear. भन को साप यखो

Stay calm. धैमण यखो
Watch as everything औय दे खो की तम्
ु हाये चायो तयप
happens around you. क्मा घहटत हो यहा है
 Everything reverts to its original state,
which was nothing.
To return to the root is to find peace,
to find peace is to fulfill one's destiny
To fulfill one's destiny is to be constant,
to know the constant is called insight
And when something becomes nothing,
it gets right with Tao.
If you don't understand that,
you're going to screw up
somewhere down the line.
If you figure it out,
you'll always know what to do.
If you get right with Tao,
you won't be afraid to die,
because you know you will.
17. When a Master takes charge,
hardly anybody notices.
The next best leader is obeyed out of love.
After that,
there's the leader obeyed out of fear.
The worst leader is one who is hated.
Trust and respect people.
That's how you earn their trust and respect.
The Masters don't give orders;
they work with everybody else.
When the job's done,
the people all remark
"we have done it ourselves"
18. When people lose touch with Tao,
they start talking about
"righteousness" and "sanctity."

औय वह ताओ के साथ एक हो जाती है

तो आऩ ऩहरे ही गिफि कय दे ते हो
अऩनी भॊस्जर तक ऩहुचने से ऩहरे
अगय आऩ इसे इसे सभझ जाते हो
तो आऩको ऩता होता है की क्मा कयना है
अगय आऩ ताओ के अनस
ु ाय होते हो
तो आऩको डय नही होता
क्मोंफक आऩको ऩता होता है की आऩ कय रोगे
जफ साधु भनु न नेतत्ृ व सॉबारते है
तो फकसी को ऩता बी नही चरता की वो भौजद
ू है
दस
ू या अच्छा नेता वो होता है जो बराई कयता है
इसके फाद
वो होता है स्जसका डय के कायण ऩारन फकमा जाता है
सफसे खयाफ वो है स्जससे रोग नपयत कयते हो
रोगो की इज्ज़त व उन ऩय बयोसा कयो
इसी से आऩको इज्ज़त व उनका बयोसा लभरेगा
साधु भनु न लसपण आदे श नही दे ते
वे उनके साथ लभरकय कामण कयते है
औय जफ कामण ऩण
ू ण हो जाता है
तो सफ लभरकय कहते है की
हभ सबने मे कामण फकमा है
जफ रोग ताओ का साननध्म खो दे ते है
तफ वे फाते कयने रगते है
सही औय गरत की औय ननमभो की
 When people forget what's true, जफ रोग वाथतप्रवकता को बर
ू जाते है
they start talking about "self-evident truths." तफ वे िभाणों की फात कयने रगते है

When people have no respect for one another, जफ वे एक दस

ु ये का आदय नही कयते
they start talking about तफ वे फाते शरू
ु कयते है
"political correctness" and "family values." प्रवनम्रता औय सदबाव की

When the nation is unstable, जफ एक याष्र अस्थथय होता है

people start talking about "patriotism." तफ वे दे शबस्क्त की फाते शरू
ु कयते है

19. Give up sainthood, renounce wisdom,
People will understand the truth and be happier
Give up cleverness, renounce morality,
and men will rediscover filial piety and love.
Give up ingenuity, renounce profit,
and bandits and thieves will disappear.

तफ रोग वाथतप्रवकता को सभझेगे औय खुश यहे गे

ू मों को सभझो
औय रोगो भें आदय बाव व प्माय होगा

इससे चोयी औय डकेती खत्भ हो जाएगी

If that's not possible, go to Plan B: अगय तभ

ु से मह सॊबव नही है तो दस

Be simple. Be real. सयर फनो तथा वाथतप्रवक यहो
Do your work as best you can. ऩयू ी ननष्ठा से अऩने कामण को कयो
Don't think about what you get for it. उससे तम्
ु हे क्मा राब होगा मे भत सोचो
Stay focused. एकाग्र यहो
Get rid of all your crap औय अऩनी रारसाओ को जाने दो

20. Don't spend too much time अऩना वक़्त खयाफ भत कयो,
thinking about stupid shit. फेकाय का सोचने भें
Why should you care if people तभ
ु इस फात की चचॊता क्मों कयते हो की
agree or disagree with you? रोग तभ
ु से सहभत है मा नही
Why should you care if others तभ
ु इस फात की चचॊता क्मों कयते हो की
find you attractive or not? उन्हें तभ
ु ऩसॊद हो मा नही
Why should you care about things तभ
ु उन वथतओ
ु की चचॊता क्मों कयते हो
that worry others? जो औयो के लरमो हो

Stop thinking about all that. इन सफके फाये भें सोचना फॊद कयो

Let other people get worked up रोगो को अऩना काभ कयने दो

and try to enjoy themselves. औय उन्हें खुद का आनॊद उठाने दो
I'm not going to give myself away. इन सब के लरए तभ
ु क्मों चचॊता कयो

In spring some go to the park, वसॊत भें कोई फगीचे भें जाता है
and climb the terrace, कोइ छत ऩय टहरता है
 But I alone am drifting, रेफकन तभ
ु इस फात से चचॊनतत क्मों हो की
not knowing where I am. तभ
ु कही ऩय क्मों नही गए

Like a newborn baby जैसे की एक फच्चा होता है

before it learns to smile हॉसना लसखने से ऩहरे
A baby doesn't know वो नही जनता की
how to smile, कैसे हॉसा जाए
but it's still happy. रेफकन फपय बी वो खुश यहता है

Let other people get excited about stuff. फाफक सब को इन सब भें असाक्त होने दो

I'm not going to hang on to anything. ऩय तभ

ु नही हो यहे हो
I'm not going to fill my mind with ideas. तभ
ु को अऩना भन इन सब चीजो से नही बयना है
I'm not going to get stuck in a rut, तभ
ु को इन सब भें नही पसना है
tied down to any one place. फकसी एक चीज से फॊधे नही यहना है

Other people are clever; औय रोग चतयु होते है

I guess I must be stupid. भै सोचता हूॉ की भै भख
ु ण हूॉ
Other people have goals; औय रोगो का रक्ष्म होता है
I guess I must be aimless. भै सोचता की भै रक्ष्मयहहत हूॉ

Like the wind. हवा की तयह हूॉ

Or the waves. मा फपय रहयों की तयह
I'm not like other people. भै औयो की तयह नही हूॉ
I'm getting right with Tao. भै तो ताओ के के साथ एक हूॉ

21. A Master stays focused on Tao. एक साधु भनु न ताओ ऩय एकाग्र यहता है
Nothing else, just Tao. औय कुछ नही लसपण ताओ

The Tao is formless and shapeless.
Oh, it is formless and shapeless,
and yet within is image.
Oh, it is shapeless and formless,
and yet within is form.
Oh, it is dim and dark,
and yet within is essence.
This essence is very real,
and therein lies faith.

मही एक शाश्वत सत्म है
औय इसी से प्रवश्वास है
आऩ एकाग्र कैसे यह सकते है
एक ऐसी चीज ऩय
 From the very beginning until now आहद से रेकय अफ तक
its name has never been forgotten. इसे बर
ु ा नही गमा है
That's the way it's been, क्मोंफक मह ऐसी ही है ,
ever since the world began जफ से मे सॊसाय है
Thus I perceive the creation. तबी तो मह हभाये साथ है

How do I know the ways of creation? भै मह कैसे जानता हूॉ?

Because of this (Tao) इसीसे ही भै जानता हूॉ

22. Learn how to yield (be twisted) कबी कबी हाय भाननी ऩिती है
is to preserve the whole. हभेशा स्जतने के लरए

Get on your knees झुकना ऩिता है

if you want to stand tall. ऊॉचा खिा यहने के लरए
If you want wisdom, अगय तभ
ु ऻान चाहते हो
empty your mind. तो ऩहरे अऩने भन को खारी कयो
If you want the world, अगय तभ
ु इस दनु नमा को स्जतना चाहते हो
renounce your riches. तो ऩहरे थवमॊ को जीतो

Push yourself until you're exhausted, अऩना साया दभ रगा दो अऩनी आखयी साॉस तक
and then you'll find your strength. तबी तभ
ु अऩने साभथ्मण को ऩहचान ऩाते हो
You can go far if you don't have तभ
ु दयू तक जाते हो,
anything to carry. जफ तम्
ु हाये ऩास ऩकिने को कुछ नही होता
The more you acquire, स्जतना तभ
ु इकट्ठा कयोगे
the less you can really see. उतना ही तभ
ु वाथतप्रवकता से दयू होते जाओगे

A Master takes this to heart
and sets an example for everybody else.
He doesn't show off
so people take notice.
He does not define himself,
therefore he is distinct
He does not boast off what he will do,
therefore he succeeds
He is not proud of his work,
and therefore it lasts
एक साधु भनु न इसे अऩने ह्रदम से सभझता है
औय औयो के लरमा उदाहयन िथतत
ु कयता है
वह हदखावा नही कयता
इसीलरए तो रोग उसकी सभीऺा कयते है
वह अऩने आऩ को ऩरयबाप्रषत नही कयता
इसी लरए तो वह सफसे अरग होता है
वह अऩनी ऺभता का गण
ु गान नही कयता
इसीलरए तो वह सपर हो ऩाता है
उसे उऩने कामण ऩय घभॊड नही होता
इसीलरए तो वह रम्फे सभम तक हटक ऩाता है

He's not out to get anybody वह महा फकसी के साथ िनतथऩधाण के लरए नही होता
so nobody can get in her way. इसीलरए तो कोई उसके यथते भें नही आता
 The ancient saying, एक िाचीन कहावत है
“To yield is to preserve the whole” जो ऩेड तेज हवाओ भें झक
ु ता है
how could it be empty words? वही फचा यह जाता है

Truly, it will return whole in the end. मह सच है आणखय भें वही फचता है
Get in touch with Tao, ताओ के साननध्म भें यहो
and you'll see what I mean. औय तम्
ु हे इसका अथण सभझ आ जामेगा

23. Nature says few words, िकृनत बी इसे अऩनाती है

For this reason तबी तो
The wind cannot blow हवाए नही चर सकती,
for the whole morning. ऩयू ा हदन के लरए
A rainstorm cannot last तफ़
ू ान नही यहता,
for the whole day. ऩयू ा हदन के लरए

If nature knows enough to अगय िकृनत मह जानती है

give it a rest sometimes, औय इसे अऩनाती है
so should you. तो तम्
ु हे बी कयना चाहहए

Why causes them? Heaven and Earth! इन्हें कौन हभेशा के लरए फना सकता है ? ,क्मा थवगण औय धयती!
If heaven and Earth cannot make things eternal, ऩय मे तो इनको शाश्वत नही फना सकते

How is it possible for man? तो फपय भनष्ु म के लरए कैसे सॊबव है

He who follows the Tao जो ताओ के अनस
ु ाय होता है
Is at one with the Tao. वह ताओ के साथ एक होता है

He who is virtuous Experiences Virtue. जो खुश यहता है उसे खुशी लभरती है

He who loses the way Is lost. जो खुद को दख
ु ी सभझता है वह दख
ु ी यहता है

When you are at one with the Tao, जफ तभ

ु ताओ के साथ एक होते हो
The Tao welcomes you. ताओ तम्
ु हे थवीकाय कयती है
When you are at one with Virtue, जफ तभ
ु खुशी को अऩनाते हो
The Virtue is always there. तो खश
ु ी तम्
ु हये लरए वहा हभेशा होती है

Trust your instincts, थवमॊ ऩय प्रवश्वास यखो

and others will trust you. औय फाफक सब बी तभ
ु ऩय प्रवश्वास कयने रगेगे

24. Keep your feet firmly planted अऩने उद्देशम भें दृढ यहो
unless you want to fall on your face. ताफक तभ
ु यथते से बटक न जाओ
Learn how to pace yourself खुद ऩय ननमॊत्रण सीखो अगय
if you want to get anywhere. तभ
ु कुछ कयना चाहते हो
 Don't call attention to yourself खुद ऩय ध्मान आकप्रषत
ण भत कयो
if you want people to notice your work. अगय तभ
ु चाहते हो रोगो का ध्मान तम्
ु हयी तयप आमे

Nobody respects people कोई बी उनका आदय नही कयता

who always have excuses. स्जनके ऩास हभेशा फहाने होते है
Nobody gives credit to people कोई बी उनको श्रेम नही दे ता
who always take it. जो हभेशा खद
ु रे रेते है

People who hype themselves रोग जो अऩना िचाय खुद कयते है

have nothing else to offer. उनके ऩास दे ने के लरए कुछ नही होता

For the Tao, these are called
“excess store and superfluous acts.”
They do not bring happiness therefore,
the man with the Tao does not abide in them.
ताओ के सन्दबण भें मे होते है
ढोंगी औय हद से ज्मादा यखने वारे
वे नही राते, कबी बी खुलशमा
जो रोग ताओ के साथ एक होते है उन्हें
उनका अनस
ु यण नही कयना चाहहए

25. There was something undefined कुछ है जो अप्रिबाप्रषत है

and yet complete in itself. फपय बी सम्ऩण
ू ण है शाश्वत है

Born before heaven and earth. जो धयती औय आकाश से बी ऩहरे से है

Silent and boundless शाॊत औय अऩाय
Standing along without change. स्थथय है शरुआत से
Yet pervading without fail औय फपय बी भौजद
ू है

Perhaps it is the mother of all things. सब चीजो की उत्ऩस्त्त का कायण है

I do not know its name, भै इसका नाभ नही जानता
but Call it Tao. ऩय इसे ताओ के नाभ से कहता हूॉ

So great that it endures. इतना बव्म की मह हटका हुआ है

Something that endures goes a long way. औय जो हटका यहता है वो रम्फे सभम तक यहता है
And something that goes a long way औय जो रम्फे सभम तक यहता है
always comes back to the beginning. वो शरु
ु आत भें फपय आता है

Tao's great. ताओ बव्म है

Heaven's great. Earth's great. धयती औय थवगण बी बव्म है
And someone in touch with Tao is great, too. औय जो ताओ के साथ एक है वो बी भहान है
Those are the four greatest things in the universe. मही चाय तो इस ब्रह्भाण्ड भें भहान है

Someone who's in touch with Tao जो ताओ के साथ एक है

is in touch with the earth. वो धयती के साथ बी है
 The earth is in touch with heaven.
Heaven's in touch with Tao.
Tao's in touch with the way things are.
26. The heavy is the root of the light.
The still is the master of unrest.
Therefore the master, traveling all day,
Does not lose sight of what he owns.
Though there are beautiful things to be seen,
He remains unattached and calm.
How can a ruler govern a nation
without recklessness
if he indulges in power and desire?
If he is lighthearted, ministers will be destroyed
and if he is agitated, the ruler will lost
27. With enough practice,
you could come and go without a trace,
speak without stumbling over words,
do complicated math problems in your head.
You could build a door with no lock
that nobody couldn’t open.
You could tie something down with no knots,
without even a rope, and nobody could pry it loose.
Masters have time to help everybody,
and ignore nobody.
They use their resources wisely,
wasting nothing.
Some people call this "following the light."
Good people teach others
because they have the potential to be good too.
Brains count for nothing
if you fail to respect your teachers
or to honor the potential in others.
That's one of the most important lessons of Tao.

अगय वो ज्मादा उदाय है तो उसके भॊत्री भ्रष्ट हो जामेगे
अगय वो ज्मादा सख्त है तो उसका याज्म खत्भ हो जामेगा

फाॊध सकते हो फकसी चीज को बफना गाॊठ के
औय बफना यथसी के औय वो ढीरा बी नही होगी
साधु भनु न होते है सबकी भदद कयने के लरए
औय जरूयत ऩिने ऩय सब को अनदे खा बी कयने के लरए
वे चीजो का उऩमोग फप्रु िभता के साथ कयते है
औय कुछ बी फेकाय नही जाने दे ते
कुछ रोग इसे कहते है अऩने आत्भिकाश का अनस
ु यण कयना
अच्छे रोग फयु ो को लसखाते है ,
क्मोंफक उनभे लसखाने की ऺभता होती है
होलशमायी फकसी काभ की नही होती है ,
अगय आऩ अऩने गरु
ु औय फिो का आदय नही कयते है

ु यो के हुनय को इज्ज़त नही दे ते है

28. If you are strong, but remain sensitive, अगय तभ
ु ताकतवय हो ऩय फपय बी सॊवेदनशीर हो
power will flow through you. तो शस्क्त तम्
ु हाये अॊदय फहती है
With that power, you'll always be right with Tao: स्जससे तभ
ु हभेशा ताओ के साथ एक होते हो
It's like a whole new life. मह एक नमी स्जॊदगी की तयह है

If you are idealistic, but stay rooted in reality, अगय तभ

ु आदशणवादी हो ऩय वाथतप्रवकता को जानते हो
you are an example to others. तो तभ
ु दस
ु यो के लरए उदाहयण िथतत
ु कयते हो
Set that example, and you'll always be right with Tao: इसे कयो औय तभ
ु हभेशा ताओ के साथ एक होगे
There is no limit to what you can do. तभ

If you knows white but preserves black अगय तभ

ु अच्छाई जानते हो ऩय तम्
ु हे फयु ा का बी ऻान है
then becomes a standard for the world. तो तभ
ु दनु नमा के लरए िभाण थथाप्रऩत कयते हो
Set that standard, and you'll always be right with Tao: इसे कयो औय तभ
ु हभेशा ताओ के अनस
ु ाय होगे
And you returns again to being limitless. तभ
ु फपय से कुछ बी कय सकोगे

If you are honorable, but remain humble, अगय तभ

ु भाननीम हो ऩय फपय बी प्रवनभण हो
you will see things as they are. औय चीजो को दे खते हो जैसे की वो है
If you see things as they are, you'll always be right with Tao: तो तभ
ु हभेशा ताओ के अनस
ु ाय होते हो
Your life will become simple, yet full of potential. औय तम्
ु हाया जीवन सयर औय साभथ्मणवान हो जाता है

Be pure and simple, सच्चे तथा सहज यहो

Let Tao show you how to get right with Tao औय फपय दे खो ताओ तम्
ु हाये साथ होती है मा नही

29. Want to take over the world? तभ

ु इस दनु नमा को प्रवजमी कयना चाहते हो
Think again. फपय से सोचो

The world's a holy place. मह दनु नमा एक ऩप्रवत्र जगह है

You can't just do what you want with it. तभ
ु जो चाहो वो इसके साथ नही कय सकते

Those who try to change it destroy it. स्जन्होंने इसे फदरने की कोलशश की है उन्होंने इसका प्रवध्वॊस काय हदमा
Those who try to possess it lose it. स्जन्होंने इसे ऩाने की कोलशश की है उन्होंने इसे खो हदमा

Sometimes, you push forward, कई फाय आऩ आगे फढ़ते है

or maybe you stay behind. मा कई फाय आऩ ऩीछे यहते है
Sometimes you push yourself, कई फाय आऩ खुद को फढ़ाते है
other times you rest. मा कई फाय आऩ स्थथय यहते है

Sometimes you're strong, कई फाय आऩ सि

ु ढ़ होते है
sometimes you're weak. तो कई फाय कभजोय
Sometimes you're up, कई फाय आऩ ऊऩय होते है
 and sometimes you're down. तो कई फाय आऩ ननचे होते है

A Master lives simply, एक साधु भनु न सदा जीवन व्मतीत कयता है

avoiding extravagance and excess. अचधकता से ऩयहे ज कयते हुए

30. Listen up: ध्मान से सन

If you want to be a leader
who's in touch with Tao,
never use violence to achieve your goals.
Every act of violence backfires.
ु ो
अगय तभ
ु एक भणु खमा होना चाहते हो तो:
जो ताओ के साननध्म भें होता है
वो कबी बी अऩने रक्ष्म के लरए हहॊसा का िमोग नहीॊ कयता
क्मोंफक हहसा हभेशा कुछ फयु ा ही रोटाती है ,उससे कुछ फयु ा ही होता है

An army on the move leaves a trail of tears, मि

ु ऩय गमी सेना अऩने ऩीछे आॊसओ
ु के ननशान छोि दे ती है
and a military victory always lies in ruins. औय पौजों की जीत हभेशा प्रवध्वॊस कयती है

The Masters do what needs doing साधु भनु न वो कयते है जो होना चाहहए
and that's all they do. औय फस मही वो कयते है

Do what you have to do जो तम्

ु हे कयना है वो तभ
ु कयो
without arrogance or pride. बफना घभॊड औय अहॊ काय के
Get the job done कामण को ऩण
ू ण कयो ,
and don't brag about it afterwards. ऩय फपय पर की चेष्टा भत कयो
Do what you have to do, जो तम्
ु हे कयना हो कयो
not for your own benefit, ऩय खुद के पामदे के लरए नही
but because it needs to be done. इसलरए कयो की वो होना चाहहए

And don't do it the way औय इसे इस तयह भत कयो की

you think it should be done, जैसा तभ
ु सोचते हो की मह होना चाहहए
do it the way it needs to be done. ऐसे कयो की जैसे उसको होना चाहहए

The mighty will always lose their power ताकतवय अऩनी सायी शस्क्तमा खो दे ता है
and any connection they ever had to Tao. औय अऩना ताओ के साथ सम्फन्ध बी
अगय वह ताओ के साथ सही नही होता है
They will not last long; if you're not right with Tao, औय वे ज्मादा सभम तक नही हटकते
you might as well be dead. औय वे भत
ृ की तयह होते है

31. Weapons are terrible things. हचथमाय बमावह वथतु होते है

If you want to get right with Tao, औय अगय तभ
ु ताओ के साथ एक होना चाहते हो तो
reject weapons. उन्हें त्माग दो

The Master, knowing all things came from Tao, एक साधु भनु न जानता है की सफकी उत्ऩस्त्त ताओ से है
recognizes what he has in common औय ऩहचानता है की इन सफभे क्मा सभानता है
 with his enemies and always tries to अऩने प्रवयोप्रिमो साथ वह हभेशा कोलशश कयता है
avoid conflict. झगडे से फचने की

But when there is no other choice,
he uses force reluctantly.
He does so with great restraint,
and never celebrates a victory;
to do so would be to rejoice in killing.
रेफकन जफ कोई याथता नही फचता
तफ वह शस्क्त का सावधानी से उऩमोग कयता है
मह वह बफरकुर सॊमभ से कयता है
औय कबी उस जीत का जश्न नही भनाता
जो वो उसे रोगो को भायकय लभरी है

A person who would rejoice in killing जो रोग दस

ु ये रोगो की हत्माए कयते है
has completely lost touch with Tao. वो ताओ के साथ अऩना साननध्म खो दे ते है
When you win a war, जफ आऩ एक मि
ु जीतते हो
you preside over a funeral. तफ आऩ कब्रों ऩय चरते हो
Pay your respects to the dead. भये हुएओ को सम्भान दो

32. Tao is an eternal mystery, ताओ एक शाश्वत यहथम है

so small you can never take hold of it. मह इतना छोटा है की तभ
ु इसे ऩकड नही सकते
If a leader gets right with Tao, अगय एक भणु खमा ताओ के साथ एक होता है
people will follow him on instinct. तो फाफक सब उसे ननप्रवणयोध अऩनाते है
All will be right with the world. औय हय चीज सही हो जाती है
People will do the right thing without being told. रोग सही चीज कयते है बफना कुछ फताए

Once the whole is divided, जफ एक चीज़ के कई बाग फकमे जाते है

the parts need names. तो उनको हये क को एक नाभ चाहता है
There are already enough names. महा ऩहरे से ही फहुत नाभ है बेद है
One must know when to stop. फपय हभे ऩता होना चाहहए की हभे कहा रुकना है
Knowing when to stop averts trouble. इसके जानने से प्रवप्ऩनतमा नही आती

Everything in the universe is full of Tao इस ब्रह्भाण्ड भें हय चीज के ऩास ताओ है
and leads to Tao, औय हय वथतु ताओ की तयप जाती है
just like the water in rivers that flows into oceans. जैसे की नहदमो का ऩानी सभन्
ु ि की तयप जाता है

33. Knowing things makes you smart, चीजो को जानना आऩको चतयु फनाता है
but knowing yourself makes you wise. ऩय खुद को जानना आऩको फप्रु िभान फनाता है

To rule others, you must be powerful, औयो ऩय प्रवजमी होने के लरए तम्
ु हाया ताकतवय होना जरूयी है
but to rule yourself, you must be strong. ऩय खद
ु को स्जतने के लरए तम्
ु हया साभथ्मणवान होना जरूयी है

If you have only what you need, जफ तम्

ु हाये ऩास होता है जो तम्
ु हे चाहहए,
you have true wealth. तबी तभ
ु सही भामने भें सॊऩन्न होते हो
If you never give up, अगय तभ
ु कबी हाय नही भानोगे
 you will find a way. तो तभ
ु कोई याथता जरूय ननकर रोगे
If you stay true to yourself, अगय तभ
ु अऩने िनत इभानदाय यहते हो तो
you will never be lost. तभ
ु कबी नही बटकोगे
If you stay alive your whole life, अगय तभ
ु अऩनी स्ज़न्दगी भें जीवॊत यहते हो
you've really lived. तभ
ु तबी जीते हो

34. Tao flows in all directions. ताओ सबी हदशाओ भें है

It's in everything, मह हय वथतु भें है
but nothing can contain it. ऩय हय वथतु के ऩास मह नही है

Everything needs Tao, सब को इसकी जरूयत है

so Tao provides, तबी तो मह िदान कयती है
and never expects anything in return. औय फदरे भें कुछ नही चाहती

Everything comes from Tao, हय चीज ताओ से आती है

but Tao doesn't call attention to itself. ऩय मह अऩने आऩ को ऩदण लशणत नही कयती
It wants for nothing. Think nothing of it. मह कुछ चाहती बी नही औय कुछ सोचती बी नही

Everything leads to Tao, हय चीज ताओ की तयप जाती है

but Tao doesn't lord it over them. ऩय वह उनका थवाभी नही फनती
Thus it may be called "The Great". इसलरए इसे हभ भहान बी कहते है
It is just because it does not wish to be great, क्मोंफक मह कबी इस भहानता की इच्छा नही यखती
That’s its greatness is fully realized मही तो इसकी भहानता है

35. When you get right with Tao,
everybody wants to be your friend.
When they're around you,
they can relax and enjoy themselves.
जफ आऩ ताओ के साथ एक होते है
तफ हय कोई आऩका लभत्र होना चाहता है
जफ वे आऩके आसऩास होते है
वे खुद को शाॊत व आनॊहदत भहसस
ू कयते है

People can be easily distracted रोगो का ध्मान आसानी से बॊग हो जाता है

by music or good food. अच्छे सॊगीत मा अच्छे बोजन द्वाया

When we try to talk about Tao, जफ हभ ताओ की फात कयते है

it seems boring by comparison. मह हभें औयो के भक
ु ाफरे उफाऊ रगता है
It doesn't look like much. मह औय फकसी जैसा नही होता
It doesn't sound like much. न ही उन जैसा इसका अथण होता है

But no matter how much you use, रेफकन तभ

ु इसका फकतना बी उऩमोग कयो
there's still plenty left. मह हभेशा होती है

36. To make something shrink, फकसी चीज को ऩतरा कयने के लरए

 you must first stretch it. ऩहरे उसे णखचो
In order to contract, उसे छोटा कयने के लरए
It is necessary to first expand उसे ऩहरे फढाओ

To make something weaker, फकसी को कभजोय फनाने के लरए

you must first strengthen it. ऩहरे उसे शस्क्त दो
To get rid of something, फकसी चीज से ऩीछा छुटने के लरए
you need to promote. उसे िदलशणत कयो
To take something, फकसी चीज को रेने के लरए
you must give it up entirely. उसे सब कुछ दे दो

This is called subtle vision. इसे ही कहते है सक्ष्

ु भ दृष्टी
The weak and supple भॊद औय कोभर,
overcomes the strong and hard. प्रवजमी हो जाता है तेज औय सख्त से

Fish must not emerge from the deeps जैसे की एक भछरी को ताराफ से फहाय नही आना चाहहए
The vital tools of a state must not be revealed. एक याज्म को अऩने गप्ु त हचथमायों का िदशणन नही कयना चाहहए

37. Tao never does anything ताओ कबी कुछ नहीॊ कयती
but nothing is left undone. फपय बी न होने को कुछ फचता बी नही

If our leaders could get in touch with Tao, अगय हभाये नामक ताओ के अनस
ु ाय हो जाए
The world would take care of itself. तो मे दनु नमा अऩना ध्मान खुद यख रेगी

If they still desired to act, अगय वे फपय बी कुछ कयना चाहते है तो

They would return to the simplicity of original state सयर व वाथतप्रवक यहे
With the simplicity of true nature, सच्चे थवरूऩ की सयरता होने से
there will be no desire. इच्छाए नही होती
Without desire, औय इच्छाओ के न होने से
there will be peace. शाॊनत लभरती है

And the world will naturally be in accord औय मे सॊसाय िकृनत के अनस

ु ाय ही
with the right Way सही यथते ऩय चरता है

PART 2 TE-THE VIRTUE(िे-वह सामर्थयय)

38. A truly good man एक अच्छा व्मस्क्त

is not aware of his goodness, उसको अऩनी अच्छाई का ऻान नही होता है
 And is therefore good.
A foolish man tries to be good,
And is therefore not good.
A truly good man does nothing,
Yet leaves nothing undone.
A foolish man is always doing,
Yet much remains to be done.
When kind people act,
they do so without thinking about it.
When the just act,
they're always sure they're doing the right thing.
But when selfish act, and nobody reacts,
they try to force everyone to do things their way.
If you're not in touch with Tao,
at least you can still have goodness.
If you don't have goodness,
there's always kindness.
If you don't have kindness,
there's always justice.
If you don't have justice,
all you have left is confusion.
Confusion is an pale imitation
of true faith and loyalty,
and always leads to trouble.
Therefore the master dwells on

On the fruit and not the flower.
Truly, he prefers what is within,
to what is without.

Tao made the heavens clear.

वह अच्छा व्मस्क्त कुछ नहीॊ कयता

जफ दमारु रोग कामण कयते है
वे इसके ऩरयणाभो के फाये भें नही सोचते
वे हभेशा फस उसे कयते है
औय उन्हें आबास होता है की वे सही कामण कय यहे है
ऩय जफ रारची व्मस्क्त कोई कामण कयता है तो उसे कोई कुछ नही कहता
वे हभेशा सब को अऩने अनस
ु ाय चरने को कहते है
अगय आऩ ताओ के साननध्म भें नही है
तफ बी आऩभे अच्छाई भौजूद होती है
अगय आऩके ऩास अच्छाई होती है तो
आऩ हभेशा दमारु होते है
अगय आऩ दमारु है तो
आऩ हभेशा न्मामप्रिम होते है
औय अगय आऩ न्माम कयते है तो
कोई सॊशम फाफक नही यहता
सॊशम केवर एक भ्रास्न्त है
प्रवश्वास औय बयोसे की
औय हभे हभेशा प्रवप्ऩनतमो की औय रे जाता है
इसीलरए साधु भनु न हभेशा बयोसा यखते है
जो मथातण है न की जो उऩयी हदखावा है
पर ऩय न की पूर ऩय
सत्म है , वे हभेशा वाथतप्रवकता को भहत्व दे ते है
हदखावे को नहीॊ
सभम की शरुआत से ही
मह वह है जो भतरफ है ताओ के साननध्म भें होने का
ताओ ने थवगण को सन्
ु दय फनामा
 Tao made the earth solid. ताओ ने धयती को दृढ फनामा
Tao made our spirits strong. ताओ ने आत्भा को शस्क्त दी
Tao made the valleys fertile. ताओ ने घाहटमों को उऩजाऊ फनामा
Tao gave all living things life. ताओ ने जीवन िदान फकमा
Tao gave rulers authority. ताओ ने शासक को अचधकाय हदए

Without Tao, ताओ के बफना

the heavens would collapse. थवगण ढह जामेगा
Without Tao, ताओ के बफना
the earth would crumble. धयती काॊऩ उठे गी
Without Tao, ताओ के बफना
our spirits would fade away. शस्क्त लभट जाएगी
Without Tao, ताओ के बफना
the valleys would dry up. खेत सख
ू जामेगे
Without Tao, ताओ के बफना
all life would become extinct. जीवन खत्भ हो जामेगा
Without Tao, ताओ के बफना
rulers would stumble and fall. शासन खत्भ हो जामेगा

Humility gives us power. नम्रता हभे शस्क्त दे ती है

Our leaders should think of themselves हभाये शासको को बी ऐसे ही सोचना चाहहए
as insignificant, powerless, unworthy of their stature. प्रवनम्र, बफना घभॊड के
Isn't that what humility is all about? क्मा मही प्रवनम्रता है ?

Be strong, सदृ
ु ढ़ फनो
but pay no attention to hollow praise. हदखावे के ऩीछे भत बागो
Don't call attention to yourself. अऩना िदशणन भत कयो
Don't make a scene. तभाशा भत फनाओ

40. Tao is always heading back ताओ वाऩस जा यही है

to where it came from. जहा से वो आई थी
Tao advances वह आगे फढ़ यही
by not pressing forward. बफना कोई कदभ फढ़ामे

Things exist because they are. वथतए

ु जो अफ है
They are because they once were not. एक फाय वो नही बी थी

41. When a wise person hears about Tao, जफ एक फप्रु िभन व्मस्क्त ताओ के फाये भें सन
ु ता है
he gets right with it. वह इसके साथ एक हो जाता है
When an ordinary person hears about Tao, जफ एक साधायण व्मस्क्त इसके फाये भें सन
ु ता है
 he tries to get right with it, वह इसके साथ एक होने की कोलशश कयता है
but eventually gives up. ऩय फपय इसे छोि दे ता है

When a fool hears about Tao, जफ एक भख

ु ण इसके फाये भें सन
ु ता है
he just laughs and laughs. वह इस ऩय हॉसता है
If he didn't laugh, अगय वह इस ऩय नही हॉसे
it wouldn't be Tao. तो मह ताओ नही है

Hence it is said: इसीलरए मह कहा गमा है

The bright path seems dim; ऻान का याथता भॊद होता है
Going forward seems like retreat; आगे फढ़ना कबी ऩीछे हटने जैसा रगता है
The easy way seems hard; आसन याथता भस्ु श्कर रगता है

Those with the most virtue ज्मादा साभथ्मण वारे

seem debased. कभजोय ितीत होते है
Those who are most pure जो शि
ु होते है
seem to be grubby and soiled. वे अप्रऩत्र ितीत होते है
The deepest thoughts गहन प्रवचाय
appear shallow. हाथम रगते है
The greatest strength भहान शस्क्त
looks like weakness. कभजोय ितीत होती है

What is most real जो वाथतप्रवक होता है

strikes us as imaginary. हभे काल्ऩननक रगता है
The largest space सफसे फिी जगह की
has no boundaries. कोई सीभा नही है
The greatest talent सफसे फिी िनतबा
seems to produce nothing. ऐसा रगता है जैसे कुछ नही कयती
The greatest voice सफसे भहान आवाज को
is unhearable. रोगो द्वाया सन
ु ा नही जाता
The greatest beauty सफसे भहान सन्
ु दयता
is invisible. अदृशम है

Tao is hidden to us and it has no name. ताओ हभाये अॊदय है फपय बी इसका कोई नाभ नही है
It is the source and the strength of all things. मह हभाये तथा ित्मेक वथतु के लरए साभथ्मण का बॊडाय है

42. Tao gives birth to one. ताओ से एक की उत्ऩस्त्त हुई

One gives birth to two. एक से दो हुए
Two gives birth to three. दो से नतन
Three gives birth to all things and all beings. औय इसी तयह सब चीजो की उत्ऩस्त्त हुई
 All beings bear the negative physical form हय चीज की एक नकायात्भक िवनृ त बी होती है
which is represented by Ying, स्जसे हभ नमॊग कहते है
and embrace the positive true nature औय जो सकायात्भक होती है
which is represented by Yang. उसे हभ माॊग कहते है
With the union of these two, जफ मे दोनों लभरते है
they arrive at a state of harmony. वही तो ऩयभ सभन्वम की अवथथा है

Hence, things are benefited by being humble, इस तयह प्रवनभण यहने से हभे पामदा लभरता है
and damaged by profiting. औय राब चाहने से नक
ु सान होता है
What the ancients had taught, हभाये ऩव
ू ज
ण ो ने बी मही फतामा है
I shall also teach as such: औय भै बी मही फता यहा हु

Men hate to be called भनष्ु म को फयु ा रगता है कहा जाना

powerless, insignificant, or unworthy, शस्क्तहीन औय फेकाय
but that's how Masters describe themselves.रे फकॊ तु साधु भनु न अऩने आऩ को एसा ही फताते है

For one gains by losing कोई खोकय ऩाता है तो

And loses by gaining. कोई ऩाकय खोता है
What others teach, I also teach; that is: औयो ने बी मही फतामा है औय भै बी फपय से मही फता यहा हूॉ
"A violent man will die a violent death!" एक हहॊसक व्मस्क्त भत्ृ मु बी हहॊसक होती है
This will be the essence of my teaching. मही भेयी लशऺा का साय है

43. The softest thing in the universe इस ब्रह्भाण्ड की सफसे कोभर वथतु
Overcomes the hardest thing in the universe. काफू ऩा रेती सफसे सख्त ऩय
That without substance can enter वह स्जसभे कुछ नही होता
where there is no room. ऩहुच सकता है कही बी

Hence I know the value of non-action. अफ भै ननष्काभ कभण का भल्

ू म कहता हूॉ
Teaching without words and work without doing बफना शब्दों के ऻान औय बफना कभण के कामण
Are understood by very few. मे फहुत कभ को ही सभझ आता है

44. What's more important, क्मा ज्मादा जरूयी है

fame or your well-being? ख्मानत मा अच्छाई
What's worth more, फकसे तभ
ु ज्मादा चाहते हो
your money or your life? ऩैसे को मा फपय जीवन को
What is more dangerous, क्मा ज्मादा खतयनाक है
winning or losing? हायना मा स्जतना

If you are too attached to your possessions, अगय तभ

ु इच्छाओ औय सॊग्रह भें ऩयू ी तयह लरप्त हो
they will bring you misery. तो मे तम्
ु हायी स्ज़न्दगी भें कहठनाई रामेगे
 If you hang on to your riches, अगय तभ
ु वथतओ
ु का सॊग्रह कयते हो
you will suffer substantial loss. तो तभ
ु उन्हें एक हदन खो दोगे
If you know when you have enough, अगय तभ
ु जानते हो की तम्
ु हाये ऩास कापी है
you will never be disgraced. तो तभ
ु इससे फच जाते हो
If you practice moderation, अगय तभ
ु सॊमभ औय सॊतोष का अभ्मास कयते हो
you can stay out of trouble. तफ तभ
ु प्रवप्ऩनतमो से भक्
ु त यहते हो

And that's the secret to lasting success. औय मही सपरता का यहथम है

45. The greatest achievements may look like mistakes, फिी सपरताए ितीत होती है शरू
ु भें गरनतमों की तयह
but you will always be able to build upon them. ऩय तभ
ु फाद भें उस भें सपर हो जाते हो
The fullest reserves may seem empty, जो चीजे ऩण
ू ण होती है वे चीजे ऩहरे खारी हदखती है
but you will always be able to draw upon them. रेफकन फाद भें तभ
ु उन ऩय प्रवश्वास कयने रगते हो

The straightest line looks crooked. सयर याथता टे ढ़ा रगता है

The most skilled people come off as clumsy. औय िनतबावान व्मस्क्तमों का उत्थान कहठनामो से ही होता है
The most eloquent people are usually silent. औय सफसे फप्रु िभान व्मस्क्त हभेशा शाॊत यहते है

When it's cold, जफ सदी होती है

you can move around to stay warm. तफ तभ
ु गभाणहट की तयप जाते हो
When it's hot, जफ गभी होती है
you should keep still and stay cool. तफ तभ
ु ठॊ डा होना चाहते हो

But whatever the weather, ऩय कैसे बी ऩरयस्थथनत हो

if you stay calm, जफ तभ
ु धैमण यखते हो
the world will sort itself out around you तभ
ु इस सॊसाय को तम्
ु हाये लरए अऩने चायो तयप ऩाते हो

46. When the world is right with Tao,
horses haul fertilizer to the fields.
When the world loses touch with Tao,
horses are trained for cavalry.
जफ मे दनु नमा ताओ के साथ एक होती है
घोिो का खाद जभीॊ को उऩजाऊ फनाता है
जफ मह दनु नमा ताओ के साथ एक नही होती है
उन्ही घोिो को मि
ु भें रे जामा जाता है

Nothing is more insidious than possession. अचधऩत्म थथाप्रऩत कयने से घातक कुछ नही है
Nothing is more dangerous than desire. इच्छाओ से खतयनाक कुछ नही है
Nothing is more disastrous than greed. रारच से बमावह कुछ नही है

If you know when enough is enough, जफ तभ

ु जानते हो की जो तम्
ु हाये ऩास है वो कापी है
you will always have enough. तफ तम्
ु हाये ऩास हभेशा कापी होता है

47. You don't have to leave your room तम्

ु हे अऩना कभया त्मागने की जरूयत नही है
to understand what's happening in the world. मह सभझने के लरए की इस सॊसाय भें क्मा हो यहा है
 You don't have to look out the window तम्
ु हे णखिकी से फहाय झाकने की बी जरूयत नही है
to appreciate the beauty of heaven. इसके सौन्दमण का अनब
ु व कयने के लरए

The farther you wander स्जतना इसके लरए तभ

ु बटकोगे
the less you know. उतना कभ तभ
ु जानोगे

The Masters don't wander around साधु भनु न ऐसे नही बटकते है
They know. They don't just look. वे तो जानते है ,वे केवर वथतओ
ु को दे खते नही है
They understand. वे उन्हें सभझते है
They don't do anything, वे कुछ बी नही कयते
but the work gets done. औय कामण बी हो जाता है

48. Usually, we try to learn हभ ज्मादातय िमत्न कयते है

something new every day. हय हदन कुछ नमा लसखने का

But if we want to get right with Tao, ऩय अगय हभे ताओ के साथ एक होना है
we have to let go of something every day. तो हभे हय हदन इन भे से कुछ न कुछ बर
ु ाना होगा, त्मागना होगा

We do less and less, हभे इन्हें तफ तक त्मागना होगा

until we end up doing nothing. जफ तक की हभाये ऩास कुछ नही फचे
And it's when we do nothing औय जफ हभाये ऩास कुछ नही फचेगा
that we get the job done. औय तफ हभाया कामण ऩण
ू ण होगा

Let events take their course, सब घटनाओ को उनके िवाह अनस

ु ाय होने दो
and everything will turn out in your favor. औय सब कुछ तम्
ु हाये अनस
ु ाय हो जामेगा
If you act on your ambitions, अगय तभ
ु अऩनी इच्छाओ को ऩण
ू ण कयने की कोलशश कयते हो
they will never pan out. तो तभ
ु कबी सपर नही होते

49. The Masters don't make up their minds. साधु भनु न खद

ु को सन
ु ने के लरए नही कहते
They turn listen to other people. वे तो दस
ु यो की फातो को सन
ु ते है

They are good to good people, वे अच्छे रोगो के साथ अच्छा होते है
and they're good to bad people. औय फयु े रोगो के साथ बी अच्छा होते है
This is real goodness. मही तो वाथतप्रवक अच्छाई है
They have faith in the faithful, उनका बयोसेभद
ॊ ो भें बयोसा होता है
and they have faith in the unfaithful. औय जो बयोसेभद
ॊ ो नही होते उन भें बी बयोसा होता है
This is real faith. मही तो सच्चा प्रवश्वास है

A Master throws himself into the world completely वह अऩने को इस दनु नमा के लरए ऩयू ी तयह न्मोछावय कय दे ता है
by harmonizing with all beings to be at one.. रोगो भें प्रवश्वास फनाने के लरए औय उन्हें एक कयने के लरए
People pay attention to him रोग उसको गौय से दे खते है
 because he lives a life of child-like wonder.
50. People who look for the
secret of long life wind up dead.
Their bodies are the focus of their lives
and the source of their death,
because they think a healthy body
is all there is to life.
The sage used to say
A man who truly understood life
could walk through the jungle without fear
Or across a battlefield without armor,
totally unarmed.
Wild animals and weapons couldn't kill him.
I know, I know: what does that mean?
"Well, he couldn't be killed,
because his body wasn't where he kept his death."
51. All things arise from Tao.
They are nourished by Virtue.
They are formed from matter.
They are shaped by environment.
Everything respects Tao and honors its virtue.
That's just the way it is.
Tao gives life to all things,
and its power watches out for them,
cares for them, helps them grow,
protects them, and comforts them.
Create something
without holding on to it.
Do the work
without expecting credit for it.
Lead people
without giving them orders.
That's the secret of the power of Tao

ु भैदान भें बफना हचथमाय के
बफरकुर कवचयहहत
जॊगरी जानवय औय हचथमाय उसे नही भाय सकते
हाॉ भै जनता हूॉ, भै जनता हूॉ इससे क्मा भतरफ है
वह भाया नही जा सकता
क्मोंफक वह अऩने उस थथर
ू शयीय भें होता ही नही है
हय चीज की उत्ऩस्त्त ताओ से होती है
उनका शस्क्त द्वाया ऩारन होता है
वे तत्वों की फनी होती है
औय वातावयण द्वाया उन्हें ढारा जाता है
हय चीज ताओ का आदय कयती है औय इसकी शस्क्त को सभझती है
मह ऐसी ही है
ताओ सबको जीवन िदान कयती है
औय इसकी शस्क्त इनका ऩोषण कयती है
उनका ध्मान यखती है औय उनको फढ़ने भें सहामता कयती है
उनकी यऺा कयती है औय उनको सक
ु ू न दे ती है
फकसी चीज को ऩाओ
बफना उसभे आसक्त हुए
कामण को कयो
ननथवाथण होकय
नेतत्ृ व कयो
बफना आदे श हदए
मही ताओ की शस्क्त का यहथम है
52. Everything starts with Tao, हय चीज की शरु
ु आत ताओ से होती है
the mother of all things. वह सबी की जननी है
If you know the mother, अगय आऩ भाॉ को जानते हो
you know the children. तो आऩ फच्चो को बी जानते हो

If you know the children अगय आऩ फच्चो को जानते हो

and remember the mother, तो आऩ को भाॉ का ध्मान यहता है
you have nothing to fear in your life. आऩ को स्ज़न्दगी भें फकसी से डयने की जरुयत नही है

Shut your mouth and keep still, चुऩ हो जाओ औय शाॊत यहो
and your life will be full of happiness. औय तम्
ु हायी स्ज़न्दगी खुलशमों से बय जाएगी
If you talk all the time, अगय तभ
ु हय वक़्त कुछ न कुछ फोरते यहते हो
always doing something, फकसी चीज भें रगे यहते हो
your life will be hopeless. तो तम्
ु हाये लरए कोई उम्भीद नही है

It takes insight इसभें अॊतदृणस्ष्ट चाहती है

to see subtlety. वथतओ
ु की सक्ष्
ु भता को सभझने के लरए
It takes strength इसभें साभथ्मण चाहता है
to yield gently to force. आयाभ से इसके साथ ढरने के लरए

Use that strength to hang on to your insight, इस साभथ्मण का उऩमोग कयो अऩनी अॊतदृणस्ष्ट को दे खने के लरए
and you will always be at peace. औय तम्
ु हे हभेशा शाॊनत लभरेगी

That's how to get right with Tao. इसे यथते से हभ ताओ के साथ एक फन सकते है

53. If I had any insight, अगय भेये ऩास थोिी सी बी अॊतदृणस्ष्ट है

I'd be trying to get right with Tao, तो भै ताओ के साथ एक फनने की कोलशश करुगा
and the only thing fear will be of straying from it. भेया अकेरा डय इससे दयू होने का होगा

It's not that hard to get right with Tao, मह इतना भस्ु श्कर बी नही है
but people are easily distracted. ऩय रोग अऩना ध्मान आसानी से इस ऩय से खो दे ते है

When the king's palace जफ याजा का कोष

is full of treasure, खजाने से बया होता है
ordinary people's fields तफ उसकी िजा के खेत
are smothered with weeds, खयऩतवाय से ग्रलसत होते है
and the food supplies run out." औय याज्म भें बोजन की तॊगी होती है

Today, you see finely dressed people आज हभ दे खते है अच्छी ऩोशाको भें सज्जे धज्जे रोगो को
carrying sharp swords जो की रारची होते है औय यखते है तेज हचथमाय
And indulge themselves औय खुद को बोगते है ,
 with food and drink; अच्छे खाने औय भहदया द्वाया

They have more possessions उनके ऩास उससे कही अचधक होता है
than they can use. स्जतना की उन्हें चाहहए
They are robber barons. वे तो डाकू रट
ु े यो की तयह है

This is certainly not the way of Tao. मह बफरकुर बी ताओ का याथता नही है

54. What is firmly established जफ कोई चीज दृढ़ता से थथाप्रऩत होती है

cannot be uprooted. उसे उखािा नही जा सकता
What is firmly grasped स्जसे भजफत
ू ी से ऩकिा गमा होता है
cannot slip away. वो फपसर नही सकती
It will be honored from मह उऩाचधत होता है
generation to generation. ऩीढ़ी डय ऩीढ़ी

Cultivate Virtue in yourself, थवमॊ को साभथ्मण से प्रवकलसत कयो

And Virtue will be real. औय साभथ्मण वाथतप्रवक होगा
Cultivate it in the family, अऩने ऩरयवाय को प्रवकलसत कयो
And Virtue will abound. औय सम्ऩन्नता चायो तयप होगा
Cultivate it in the village, अऩने गाॉव को प्रवकलसत कयो
And Virtue will grow. औय सॊऩन्नता औय फढ़े गी
Cultivate it in the nation, अऩने याष्र को प्रवकलसत कयो औय
And Virtue will be abundant. औय सॊऩन्नता सम्ऩण
ू ण होगी
Cultivate it in the universe, सम्ऩण
ू ण ब्रह्भाण्ड को प्रवकलसत कयो औय
And Virtue will be everywhere. औय मह हय जगह होगा

Therefore judge the individual as individual; एक व्मस्क्त को व्मस्क्त की तयह दे खो जैसे की तभ

Judge the family as your family;
Judge the village as your village;
Judge the nation as your nation;
Judge the universe as whole universe.
How can I know this? I just do.

एक ऩरयवाय को ऩरयवाय की तयह दे खो जैसे की तम्
ु हाया हो
एक गाॉव को गाॉव की तयह दे खो जैसे की तम्
ु हाया हो
एक याष्र को याष्र की तयह दे खो जैसे की तम्
ु हाया याष्र है
ब्रह्भाण्ड को एक सम्ऩण
ू ण ब्रह्भाण्ड की तयह दे खो
भै मह सब कैसे जानता हूॉ? फस भै जनता हूॉ

55. A person filled with the power of Tao
is like a baby boy:
bees can't sting him,
wild beasts can't attack him.
अऩने को ताओ के साभथ्मण से बयो
जैसे की एक फच्चे भें होता है
उसे भधभ
ु क्खीमा काटती नहीॊ है
जानवय उस ऩय आक्रभण नही कयते

A baby has soft bones and weak muscles, एक फच्चे की हड्ड़डम कोभर व कभजोय होती है
but a firm grip. तफ बी उसकी ऩकड भजफत
ू होती है
 He hasn't know about male and female, उसने कबी काभ नही बोगा होता
but he can get an erection. तफ बी उसभे वह उत्तेस्जत्ता होती है
That's because मह होता है क्मोंफक
His essence is at its most pure. वह बफरकुर शि
ु है ननभणर है ऩप्रवत्र है
He can cry all day and वह ऩयू ा हदन यो सकता है
never lose his voice. बफना अऩनी आवाज भें दभ खोए

That's because क्मोंफक वह

he's at one with his world. इस ब्रह्भाण्ड से एक है

If you're at one with the world, औय अगय आऩ इस ब्रह्भाण्ड से एक होते है

you know insight. तो आऩको अॊतदृणस्ष्ट का ऻान होता है
And if you know insight, अगय आऩको अॊतदृणस्ष्ट का ऻान होता है
you've been enlightened. तो आऩ ऩयभ फौप्रित होते है

It is not wise to rush about. मह फप्रु िभता नहीॊ है मह इस तयह से उत्तेस्जत होना
To Control the breath causes strain. अऩने श्वास को योकना औय खुद को उसका ननमॊत्रण कयना
To be overflowed follows decay हद से ज्मादा होना प्रवनाश का कायण होता है

This is not the way of Tao. मह ताओ का याथता नही है

They've lost touch with Tao, वे ताओ की साथ अऩना सॊफध
ॊ खो चुके होते है
and when you lose touch with Tao, औय जफ आऩ ताओ की साथ अऩना सॊफध
ॊ खो चक
ु े होते है
you will not last long. तो आऩ ज्मादा दे य नही ठहयते हो

56. Those who know, don't talk. जो जानते है वो ज्मादा फोरते नही है
Those who talk, don't know. जो ज्मादा फोरते है वो जानते नही है

Shut your mouth. Be still. चुऩ यहो औय शाॊत यहो

Relax Let go of your worries. शाॊत यहो औय चचन्ताओ को जाने दो
Stay out of the spotlight. रोगो के नजयो भें खुद को िदलशणत भत होने दो

The more restrictions a nation imposes, स्जत्तनी ज्मादा फॊहदशे एक याष्र रगाता है
the poorer its people become. उतने ही असभथण उसके रोग फन जाते है
When a nation hoards weapons, जफ एक याष्र हचथमायों का सॊचम कयता है
troubles arise from within and from without. तो प्रवऩस्त्तम ही आती है औय दे शो से बी औय उसके रोगो से बी
When its leaders try to be cunning and clever, जफ एक शासक ज्मादा चतयु औय चारक फनने की कोलशश कयता है
the situation spins further out of control. तो ऩरयस्थथनतमा उसके हाथो से ननकर जाती है औय बफगि जाती है
When they try to fix things by passing more laws, जफ वे इनको औय ननमभ थोऩकय ठीक कयना चाहते है
they only increase the number of outlaws. तो मह लसपण अऩयाधो को फढ़ावा दे ता है

A wise leader says to himself: एक फप्रु िभान भणु खमा खुद को कहता है
"I do nothing, and people transform themselves. भैंने कुछ नही फकमा रोगो ने खद

I keep silent, भै तो चुऩ यहा था
and they do the right thing on their own. औय उन्होंने खुद से ही सही फकमा
I stay out of the way, भै तो उनके याथते भें आमा ही नही
and they prosper. औय उन्होंने तयक्की की
I want for nothing, भैंने कुछ नही चाहा
and they lead simple lives." औय वे सादा जीवन व्मतीत कय यहे है

58. When a nation is ruled with a light touch, जफ एक याष्र ऩय सौम्म तयीके से शासन फकमा जाता है
people lead simple lives. तो रोग सादा व सहज यहते है
When a government is harsh and demanding, ऩय जफ सयकाय सख्त औय रोबी होती है
people will spend their time trying to outsmart it. तो रोग अऩना सभम रगाते है उसको हटाने के लरए

Misery is what Happiness depend upon . द्ु ख तो वह है जो सख

Happiness is what misery hides in. औय सख ु व है स्जसभे द्ु ख नछऩा हुआ है

Therefore the masters are sharp but not cutting,
Pointed but not piercing,
They are Straightforward but not strained,
Brilliant but not blinding.
इसीलरए साधु भनु न तेज होते है ऩय ऩैने नही
धायदाय होते है ऩय नक
ु ीरे नही
वे सयर होते है ऩय अथबाप्रवक नही
वे शानदाय होते है ऩय हदखावी नही

59. Leadership is based on moderation and simplicity. नेतत्ृ व सॊमभ औय सहजता ऩय आधारयत होता है
Practice moderation and simplicity, सॊमभ औय सहजता का अभ्मास कयो
and you'll get in touch with the power of Tao. औय तभ
ु ताओ के साभथ्मण के साथ होगे

If you get right with Tao, अगय तभ

ु ताओ के साथ सही होते हो
nothing is impossible. तो कुछ बी नाभभ
ु फकन नही
If nothing is impossible, अगय कुछ बी नाभभ
ु फकन नही है तो
there's no limit to what you can do. इसकी कोई सीभा नही है जो तभ
ु कय सकते हो
If there's no limit to what you can do, अगय उसकी इसकी कोई सीभा नही है जो तभ
ु कय सकते हो
you can be a true leader, उस सभम तभ
ु वाथतव भें एक सही भणु खमा होते हो
And you lasts long through this way. औय तभ

Plant deep roots in firm soil. दृढ यहो

60. When the empire is ruled in accordance with the Tao जफ एक याज्म को ताओ के अनस

And you're in touch with Tao, औय आऩ बी ताओ के अनस
ु ाय होते है

you don't need to worry about evil. तो तम्

ु हे फयु े रोगो से बमबीत होने की कोई जरूयत नही होती
Not that the evil has no spiritual power, of course, ऐसा नही है की फयु ो रोगो के ऩास शस्क्त नही होती
but the sprits themselves do not harm to men. ऩय वह शस्क्त थवमॊ तम्
ु हे नक
ु सान नही ऩहुचाती

Also, as a wise leader, औय एक फप्रु िभान भणु खमा की तयह वह बी

can cause no harm to his people, कबी फकसी को नक
ु सान नही ऩहुचाता

If only the leader and his people अगय याजा औय उसकी िजा
 won't have to worry about getting hurt,
All the benefits would accumulate the kingdom.
61. A great nation rules by placing
itself in a lowly position,
like the rivers that flow
into the low regions of ocean.
Hence, people will naturally
be faithful to their country.
Mother nature always stays
calm and quiet to overcome the unrest.
Thus, if a great nation can lower itself
to deal with a smaller nation,
Then it shall win the heart of the people.
And the smaller nation
will willingly merge with the great nation.
And if the smaller nation can lower itself
to deal with the great nation,
Then it shall win the trust
and be accommodated as a part of the great nation.
Therefore those who would conquer must yield,
And those who conquer do so because they yield.
The great nation only wishes to
unite and shelter all the people,
While the small nation only wishes
to be a part of the nation to serve it.
Now that both are granted with
what they wish for,
It is only natural for the “Great” to put itself
in a lowly position.
62. Every living thing gets its strength from Tao.
Good people respect the value of Tao.
The wicked and foolish don't,
but Tao provides for them anyway.

औय जफ एक छोटा याष्र खुद को रचीरा प्रवनम्र यखता है
फिे याष्र से ऩेश आते वक़्त
तो वह उस फिे याथत्र का प्रवश्वास स्जत रेता है
औय फिे याष्र का सॊयऺण ऩाता है
इसीलरए जो प्रवजेता फनना चाहते है उन्हें झुकना बी ऩिता है
क्मोंफक झुककय ही वे प्रवजेता फन ऩाते है
एक फिा याष्र चाहता है लसपण
एकता औय सॊऩन्नता अऩने रोगो की
जफफक एक छोटा याष्र चाहता है
एक फिे याष्र का हहथसा होना
अफ जफ दोनों की इच्छा ऩण
ू ण हो जाती है
जो वे चाहते है
इसलरए हभ कह सकते है की मह अच्छा होता है

ु को ननचा यखना अथाणत प्रवनम्र व रचीरा यखना
हय सजीव वथतु ऩाती है अऩनी उजाण ताओ से
अच्छे रोग ताओ की अहलभमत का आदय कयते है

ऩय ताओ उनको बी उजाण िदान कयती है
 Some people gain power and prestige
through fancy words,
others through great deeds.
But Tao is available to everyone,
not just the powerful.
So don't look down on anybody.
कुछ रोग ऩाते है ताकत औय ख्मानत
उनके प्रवलशष्ट शब्दों द्वाया
कुछ ऩाते है उनके अच्छे कभो द्वाया
ऩय ताओ तो सफके लरए है
लसपण शस्क्तवान के लरए नही
इसीलरए फकसी को ननचा भत सभझो

Therefore, इसीलरए
it is better to embrace this precious Tao ताओ के साथ सभाप्रवष्ट होना अच्छा है
than to be crowned as kings एक याजा फनने से
or to possess wealth and fine horses. मा फपय धन साम्ऩन्म होने से

Why have the Masters always respected Tao? साधु भनु न क्मों ताओ का आदय सत्काय कयते है
Because when you get right with Tao, क्मोंफक जफ तभ
ु ताओ के साथ होते हो
you can always find what you need to get by, तभ
ु ऩाते हो जो तम्
ु हे चाहहए
and trouble can never find you. औय ऩये शाननमा तम्
ु हे खोज बी नही ऩानत
Thus, It is the greatest honor in the world. इसीलरए मही तो सब से फिा साभथ्मण है इस सॊसाय भें

63. Keep still and Act without personal desire. शाॊत यहो औय अऩनी इच्छाए त्मागकय कभण कयो
Manage without intentional concern. अऩने राब के बफना कामण को दे खो
Taste without desire of the flavor. चखो बफना थवाद की चाह के

Hold the same regard for big or small, इसी तयह छोटे औय फिे को बी सभझो
abundant or little औय कभ औय ज्मादा को बी
and reward the unkind with kindness. औय जो दमारु नही है उसके लरए बी दमारु फनो

Learn to appreciate everyday life. हय हदन की स्जॊदगी की कि कयना सीखो

Pay attention to details. छोटी छोटी चीजो ऩय ध्मान दो
Start small and work your way up. छोटे से शरु
ु आत कयो फपय उसे फिा कयते जाओ
When people give you trouble, जफ रोग तम्
ु हे ऩये शाननमा दे
let it slide. उन्हें जाने दो

Break everything down to its essentials. हय चीज को फाॊट कय दे खो उसके छोटे हहथसों के रूऩ भे
Get the job done कामण को ऩण
ू ण कयो,
before it becomes a chore. इससे ऩहरे की वो प्रवप्ऩनत न फन जाए
With the right preparation, सही तैमायी से
difficult tasks can be फिे भस्ु श्कर कामण बी
completed with ease; आसानी से ऩण
ू ण हो जाते है

 consists of simple steps.
The Masters don't take on
more than they can handle,
which is why they can do just about anything.
Don't promise more than you can deliver,
and don't underestimate the task:
You'll only make things harder for yourself.
The Masters are always aware of the
difficulties involved,
which is why they never have to deal with them.
64. What is at rest is easy to hold.
Trouble is easily overcome before it starts.
Fragile things break easily,
and small things are easy to lose.
Deal with the situation
before it becomes a problem.
Keep everything straight
so it can't get messed up.
Every tree was once a seed.
Every skyscraper started out
with a shovelful of dirt.
A journey of a thousand miles
begins with a single step.
When you try too hard,
you defeat your own purpose.
Cling to stuff,
and you will suffer loss.
The Masters make no effort,
so they never fail.
They aren't attached to things,
so they never feel loss.
People often screw up

आऩ अऩने ही रक्ष्म से बटक जाते है

साधु जन सहज होते है
इसीलरए तो वे कबी असपर नही होते
वे चीजो भें आसक्त नही होते
इसीलरए तो वे उन्हें कबी नही खोते

 when the job's nearly done.
Pay as much attention to the finishing touches
as you do to the initial steps,
and you won't screw up like that.
The Masters try to be free from desire.
They don't collect precious things.
They don't cling to any beliefs.
They pay attention to what
everybody else ignores.
They help the world get right with Tao,
but don't try to change a thing.
65. In ancient times,
leaders who were right with Tao
didn't teach everybody how to become enlightened.
They kept people's lives simple.
People who know too much
can't be taught anything.
Leaders who try to be clever
always screw things up.
Leaders who keep things simple
always make things right.
If you get that,
you'll understand the mysterious power of Tao. तो तभ
That kind of power is so deep, so extensive,
it penetrates into every level of existence.
66. An ocean is greater than the
hundred rivers that flow into it,
and all it does is wait to
receive what they bring.
If the sage would guide the people,
he must serve with humility.
If he would lead them,
he must follow behind.

रेफकन वो फकसी चीज़ को फदरने का िमत्न बी नही कयते
ऩयु ाने सभम भें
जफ नामक ताओ के साथ सही होते थे
वे रोगो को उऩदे श फाॉटते नही फपयते थे
वे तो फस उनके जीवन को सयर औय सहज यखते है
आदभी जो सफ कुछ जनता है
उसे कुछ लसखामा नही जा सकता
भणु खमा जो चतयु होने की कोलशश कयते है
वो ऩरयस्थथनतमों को बफगाि दे ते है
जो नामक चीजो को सयर यखते है
वे ही उनको सही ढॊ ग से यख ऩाते है
अगय तभ
ु सभझ गए
ु ताओ की यहथमभमी शस्क्त को सभझ गए
इस िकाय की शस्क्त फहुत ही ताकतवय होती है औय फहुत ही गहन
मह होने वारी हय चीज को बेद सकती है
एक सभद
ुॊ य फिा होता है
उसभे फहने वारी सैकिो नहदमों से
औय वो फस कयता है इॊतजाय
जो वो नहदमा राती है
अगय एक साधु को रोगो को सही हदशा हदखानी है
तो उसे प्रवनभणता से ऩेश आना होगा
अगय उसे उनकी अगव
ु ाई कयनी है तो
उनको उनके ऩीछे ऩीछे चरना होगा
 If you want to lead them,
find out where they want to go.
In this way when the sage rules,
the people will not feel oppressed;
People love leaders who make them
feel safe without smothering them.
They'll always support a leader like that,
and because he doesn't try
to compete with anybody,
nobody is able to compete with him.
67. Everyone under heaven says that
my Tao is great and beyond compare.
Because it is great,
it seems different.
If it were not different,
it would have vanished long ago.
The three most important qualities in life are
Compassion, or showing kindness and mercy to others,
Simplicity, or knowing what a thing is worth, and
Humbleness, or daring not to be ahead of others.
Courage stems from
showing kindness and mercy to others.
Generosity starts with
knowing what a thing is worth.
True leadership begins with
daring not to be ahead of others.
But these days,
I see everyone trying to act courageous
without any trace of compassion.
They try to be generous
but they have no Simplicity in their own lives.
They act like leaders,
but they have no sense of Humbleness.
अगय तभ

ु ाई कयना चाहते हो तो
ऩता रगाओ की वे कहा जाना चाहते है
इस तयह जफ वह साधु नेतत्ृ व कयता है
तफ रोग अऩने अचधकायों व अऩने को दफा हुआ नही सभझते है
रोग ऐसे भणु खमा को चाहते है
जो उनको उत्ऩीड़डत फकमे बफना उनके यऺा कयता है
वे हभेशा ऐसे भणु खमा का साथ दे ते है
चॉ फू क वह भणु खमा कोलशश नही कयता
फकसी के साथ थऩधाण की
इसीलरए कोई औय बी उसके साथ थऩधाण नही कयता
हय कोई थवगण के अॊदय कहता है की
भेयी ताओ बव्म है तथा सफसे अरग है
क्मोंफक मह बव्म है
इसीलरए तो मह सफसे लबन्न है
अगय मह सफसे लबन्न नही होती तो
फहुत ऩहरे की सभाप्त हो गमी होती
स्जॊदगी भें तीन भल्
ू म सफसे जरूयी है
सहानबनू त मा रोगो के िनत दमाबाव
सहजता मा फकसी वथतु के भहत्व को सभझना
नम्रता मा फकसी के साथ थऩधाण नही कयने से
साहस आता है ,
रोगो के साथ सहानब
ु नू त हदखाने से दमाबाव हदखाने से
उदायता आती है ,
वथतओ
ु का वाथतप्रवक भहत्व जानने से
नेतत्ृ व की ऺभता आती है ,
उनके साथ प्रवनभण यहने से
ऩय इन हदनों
हय कोई होना चाहता है फहादयु
बफना फकसी सहानब
ु नू त के
होना चाहता है उदाय
बफना जीवन भें सहजता के
नेतत्ृ व कयना चाहता है
बफना प्रवनम्रता की सभझ के
 No good can come of this. इससे कुछ अच्छा नही हो सकता
If you want to get ahead, अगय तभ
ु रोगो से आगे होना चाहते हो
show people compassion. तो उनको दमाबाव हदखाओ
When other people attack you, जफ वे तभ
ु ऩय हभरा कये
defend yourself with compassion. सहानब
ु नू त से अऩना फचाव कयो
It's the most powerful force in the universe. मह इस ब्रह्भाण्ड का सफसे सफसे ताकतवय फर है

68. A good soldier is not violent.
A good warrior does not lose his temper.
A great conqueror does not challenge others.
A good leader is humble.
The best way of employing a man
is to serve under him
एक अच्छा लसऩाही हहॊसक नही होता
एक अच्छा मोिा कबी अऩना आऩा नही खोता
एक भहान प्रवजेता कबी दस
ु यो को चुनोती नही दे ता
एक अच्छा भणु खमा प्रवनम्र होता है
फकसी को नौकयी ऩय यखने का सफसे अच्छा तयीका है

This is the virtue of not contending; मही तो शस्क्त है असॊघप्रषणत होने की

this is called directing the strength of others; इसे कहते है उन्ही की शस्क्त को उऩमोग भें राना

Such is regarded as achieving harmony with nature. इसे सभझा जाता है िकृनत के साथ सही तारभेर फनाना
Such is the perfect Oneness of true nature. मही तो ऩयभ वाथतप्रवकता का एकरूऩ है

69. There's an old military saying: एक ऩयु ानी पौजी कहावत है

"I'd rather face an attack than have to make one. “भै एक आक्रभण का साभना कयना चाहुगा न की ऩहरे उसे कयना”
I'd rather retreat a foot than try to advance an inch." “भै एक कदभ ऩीछे फढ़ाना चाहुगा आगे फढ़ने से ऩहरे”

This is called marching without appearing to move, इसे कहते है बफना चरे िगनत कयना
Capturing the enemy without attacking, दश्ु भन का साभना कयना बफना उस ऩय आक्रभण फकमे
Being armed without weapons. शसक्त होना बफना हचथमायों के

When you defend yourself without any show of force, जफ आऩ अऩना फचाव कयते है बफना कोई फर हदखाए
you give your opponent nothing to fight. तो आऩ आऩने िनतद्वॊदी को रिने के लरए कुछ नही छोिते
Attacking an enemy अऩने दश्ु भन ऩय आक्रभण कयना
you've underestimated is a costly mistake. जो की आऩने फहुत ही कभतय आॊका था सफसे भहॉगी गरती होती है
When two forces oppose each other, जफ दो शस्क्तमा आऩस भें टकयाती है
the winner is the one who feels the grief. तो प्रवजेता वही होता है
जो इससे होने वारे नक
ु सान व ऩीिा को सभझता है

70. My words of Tao is easy to भेये ताओ के मे शब्द आसन है ,

understand and to practice. सभझने के लरए औय अभ्मास के लरए
However, the world can रेफकन फपय बी मे सॊसाय
neither understand nor practice them. न ही इन्हें सभझता है न ही इनका अभ्मास कयता है
 In my words of Tao, भेये ताओ के इन शब्दों भें
there is the subtle truth. सक्ष्
In my deeds,
there is the Way of Tao.
People didn't get that,
which is why they didn't understand Tao.
And the less they understood Tao,
the more meaningful the Tao became.
That's why the Masters live simply,
hiding their wisdom deep within themselves.
71. Knowing ignorance is strength.
Ignoring knowledge is sickness.
If one is sick of sickness,
then one is not sick.
The sage is not sick because
he is sick of that sickness.
72. When you show no fear at all,
the universe gives you something
to really be afraid of.
When people do not respect the authority,
There shall be great misfortune.
Don't try to fence people in or grind them down.
Just let them be,
and they'll always be on your side.
The Masters know themselves,
but they don't reveal themselves.
They love themselves,
but they know what their lives are worth.
They let go of all that to concentrate on this.
73. A brave and passionate man will kill or be killed.
A brave and calm man will always preserve life.
Of these two which is good and which is harmful?

स्जससे आऩको सच भें बम हो

उन्हें होने दो जो उन्हें होना चाहहए

वे खुद को चाहते बी है ,
ऩय वे जानते है की उनके जीवन का क्मा भल्
ू म है क्मा उद्देश्म है
वे इस सब को जाने दे ते है औय जो है उस ऩय ध्मान रगाते है
एक फहादयु औय आवेलशत व्मस्क्त मा तो भये गा मा भय जामेगा

हभेशा रोगो की स्ज़न्दगी फचाने की सोचेगा
अफ सोचो इनभे से कौन फहादयु है औय कौन नक
ु सानदामक
 What nature wishes,
who may know what the reasons are?
Thus, the master is aware of the subtlety
and profoundness of the Nature’s Way,
This is how Tao works:
It doesn't push itself,
and it always succeeds.
It acts silently,
and it always reacts.
It can't be summoned;
it comes whenever it's ready.
It can't make rush;
it's always on time.
Heaven's net casts wide.
Though its meshes are large,
nothing slips through.
74. When people do not fear death,
There is no use trying to
threaten them with death.
If people value their lives,
and those who break the law were being executed,
Then who would dare to commit criminal act?
The life and death of all beings are
handled by the executioner of Nature.
Those who substitute
the nature executioner to kill,
Is like replacing
the master carpenter to chop the wood.
One who substitutes
the master carpenter to chop the wood,
Rarely does not hurt his hands.
75. People starve because
the government taxes them to death.

इसे आहत नही फकमा जा सकता

फपय बी उनभे से कुछ नही फपसरता
जफ रोगो भें भौत का डय नही यहता

तो कौन हहम्भत कये गा अऩयाध कयने की

जो रोग इसे ननमॊत्रण भें कयना चाहते है
औय मभयाज से फदरना चाहते है
मह तो वैसा है जैसे की
जैसे की एक भख्
ु म फढई को रकिी काटने के लरए कह हदमा जाए
जो ऐसा कयते है
फढई को रकिी काटने के लरए कहते है
उनके ऐसे कभ ही भौके होते है
जफ उनके हाथो को चोट नही ऩहुचती

the government tries to run their lives.
People act like life is meaningless because
the government takes everything they have.
People who know how to enjoy life
are wiser than people who value their lives
76. A baby's body is soft and gentle.
A corpse is hard and stiff.
Plants and trees are tender and full of sap.
Dead leaves are brittle and dry.
If you are rigid and unyielding,
you might as well be dead.
If you are soft and flexible,
you are truly alive.
Soldiers trained to fight to the death will die.
A tree that cannot bend with the wind will snap.
Here's a useful saying:
The harder they come,
the harder they fall.
The hard and strong will fall.
The humble and weak will overcome.
77. The Tao of Nature is like stretching a bow.
When the stretch is too high,
It needs to be pressed down.
When the stretch is too low,
it needs to be raised high.
The excess will be reduced.
The deficient will be replenished.
Tao takes energy from where it is,
and sends it where it needs to be.
But most people take from
those who don't have enough,

स्जतनी कठोय, तेजी से वे आमे
उतने ही कठोयता, तेजी से वे गए
सख्त औय ताकतवय असपर हो जाते है
प्रवनम्र औय कभजोय जीत जाते है
ताओ का थवरूऩ एक धनष
ु की ित्मॊचा खीचने जैसा है
जफ फहुत जोय से खीचा हदमा जाता है
तो उसे वाऩस दफामा जाता है ताफक वह टूट न जाए
जफ फहुत आयाभ से खीचा जाए तो
उसे औय खीचने की जरूयत होती है
फहुतामत को कभ फकमा जाता है
कभ को फपय से बया जाता है
ताओ जहा है वह से उजाण रेती है
औय जहा होनी चाहहए वह बेजती है
ऩय ज्मादातय रोग रेते है उनसे
स्जनके ऩास बफरकुर बी नही है
 so those who have too much already ताफक स्जनके ऩास सफ कुछ है
can have more. उनके ऩास औय हो सके

So who in this world is truly generous to others? तो इनभे से ज्मादा उदाय कौन है
People who are in touch with Tao. जो ताओ के थऩशण भें होता है

They do their work without taking credit. वे कयते है कामण को उसका आश्रम लरए बफना,
They get the job done and move on. वे उसे कय रेते है औय फपय आगे फढ़ जाते है
They aren't interested in showing off. वे उसका िदशणन कयने भें प्रवश्वास नही यखते

78. Nothing is softer or more yielding than water. जर से ज्मादा कोभर औय रचीरा कुछ बी नही है
Yet, given time, फपय बी सभम आने ऩय
it can erode even the hardest stone. वह फिी से फिी चट्टानों को बी काट दे ता है

That's how the weak can defeat the strong, इसी तयह एक कभजोय एक ताकतवय को हयाता है
and the supple can win out over the stiff. औय एक कोभर जीत सकता है एक सख्त ऩय

Everybody knows it. हय कोई इसे जानता है

So why don't we apply it to our own lives? तो फपय इसे अऩने जीवन भें क्मों नही अऩनाता

The ancient sages used to say: िाचीन भनु न कहा कयते थे

"Take on people's problems, रोगो की सभथमाओ को सभझो
and you can be their leader. औय तभ
ु उनके भणु खमा फन सकते हो
Deal with the world's problems, इस सॊसाय की सभथमाओ को सभझो
and you'll be a Master." औय तभ
ु एक साधु फन सकते हो

Sometimes Truthful words may seem कबी कबी सत्म फोि कयने वारे शब्द ितीत होते है ,
to be the reverse of worldly practices. मथाथण जीवन भें उसका उल्टा

79. When making peace between disputants, जफ दो प्रविोहहमों के बफच शाॊनत थथाऩना के फाद
there is always some remaining sense of dispute उनभे आऩसी तनाव फपय बी फचा यहता है
how can this constitute a good act? तो क्मा मह एक ऩण
ू ण कामण हुआ है ?
Thus, how can this be considered as a good settlement? तो हभ इसे एक ऩयू ी तयह से अच्छा कामण फकस िकाय
कह सकते है

Therefore, a sage cultivates himself इसीलरए एक भनु न अऩने अॊदय प्रवकलसत कयता है
with introspection and self-discipline आत्भप्रवश्रेषण की बावना औय अनस
ु ाशन
without blaming others for faults. औय अऩने कामो का फकसी औय ऩय दोष नही भढ़ता
Therefore, the sage keeps hold of the creditor’s tally इस तयह वह रोगो को फहुत कुछ दे ता है
but never calls in the debts others owe him. ऩय कबी फकसी चीज की भाॊग नही कयता
 Hence, a person of virtue acts
as if he were the debtor.
And a person without virtue acts
as if he were the creditor that demands only from others.
The Tao of Nature is impersonal
which makes no exception to anyone.
It always assists those that are kind and virtuous.
80. I had a dream about a small country with very few people.
They didn't need machines
to get their work done faster.
They took their lives seriously,
and stayed close to home.
They may have owned boats and carriages,
but they never went anywhere.
They may have owned weapons,
but they kept those weapons locked up, securely hidden.
They had so few responsibilities,
they never had to make a To-Do list
to remember what had to be done.
They enjoyed simple foods, dressed plainly,
lived comfortably, and kept their traditions alive
And even though their neighbors were so close
they could hear the dogs barking at night,
they had no interest in leaving their homes,
where they grew old peacefully and died.
81. The truth isn't flashy.
Flashy words aren't true.
Words of truth are not pleasing.
Pleasing words are not truthful.
Educated people aren't always smart.
Smart people don't always have an education.
Good people don't argue.
People who argue aren't good.

औय हभेशा अऩने घयो के ऩास यहे
हाराॉफक उनके ऩास उनके गयाज औय उनकी नाव हो
ऩय वे कही न जाए वे वही यहे जहा ऩय वे यहते हो
उनके ऩास हचथमाय हो सकते है
ऩय वे उनको नछऩा कय यखते हो तारे भें
उनके ऊऩय फहुत कभ स्जम्भेदारयमा हो
उनको कबी अऩने कामो की सच ू ी न फनानी ऩिे,
माद कयने के लरए की उन्हें क्मा कयना है
वे सादा बोजन कये औय सादे कऩडे ऩहने
सहजता से यहा औय हभेशा अऩने यीती रयवाजो को स्जॊदा यखे
औय वे फेशक ऩिोस भें इतनी आऩस भें इतनी नजदीक यहते हो
की उन्हें कुत्तो का शोय बी सन
ु े दे
ऩय उन्हें एक दस
ु यो से कोई तकरीप न हो
औय वे वही ऩय जीवन व्मतीत कये औय वही िाण त्माग दे
सत्म फनावटी नहीॊ होता है
फनावटी शब्द सत्म नही होते है
सत्म वचन कडवे होते है
भधुय वचन हभेशा सत्म नही होते है
लशक्षऺत व्मस्क्त हभेशा सभझदाय नही होते
औय हय सभझदाय व्मस्क्त लशक्षऺत नही होता
अच्छे रोग फहस नही कयते
औय जो फहस कयते है वो अच्छे नही होते
The Masters don't hang on to things.
They're always doing something for other people,
so they always have more to give.
They give away whatever they have,
so what they have is worth more.
If you want to get right with Tao,
help other people, don't hurt them.
The Masters always work with people,
never contend them.
