Lorem Ipsum 
LoremIpsum is a random text generator which helps designers to quickly add placeholder text to 
mockups. It uses a database of sentences and intelligence to generate random, non‐repetitive text. 

You can use this extension in both Fireworks CS3 and Fireworks CS4.  

Installing LoremIpsum extension 
Double‐click the LoremIpsum.mxp file to install the extension. Adobe Extension Manager guides you 
through the installation process. 

Features:

‐ Lists [Plain / Bulleted / Numbered]

2 Use preset styles on text to generate. And flexibility to change the preset setting Font, Font Size, 
Line Height [Leading], Font Weight and Font style. 
3 Converting selected text to lower case, upper case or only first character of each word to upper 
case. 
4 Adding amount of text to selected Path [text in path]. 
5 Adding more text to existing text block.

Using the LoremIpsum Generator  
If the Lorem Ipsum panel is not already visible, from the Window menu, select LoremIpsum. 

Specify paragraphs, lists, words or characters 

1. Select the option you want to generate from the drop‐down list.  
2. Enter the number in text input area next to drop‐down and click on Generate Lorem Ipsum 
button at bottom of the panel. 

This adds a text block starting at the left top of the canvas. 

Generate text with predefined styles 
You can specify the format of the text that you want to generate—including paragraph and 
character styles. 

 Select the predefined style from Preset drop down and then click on Generate Lorem Ipsum to 
generate a block of text with preset styles. 

You can change the font, font size, line height settings for the selected style.  

Append text to existing text block 
1. Select the text block to which you want to append a new block of text.  
2. Select Insert options and Typography options and click on Generate Lorem Ipsum.

This adds a block of text to the selected text block. 

Add text to custom location and within selected width 
Draw an empty text block, select Insert options, Typography options and click on Generate 
Lorem Ipsum. 

This adds a block of text to the selected empty text block. 

Add text to any custom path (Text In Path) – Supported only in Fireworks CS4 
Select any vector element (note: It won’t work on Group of vectors / Auto shapes) and then 
select Insert options, Typography options and click on Generate Lorem Ipsum. 

This adds a block of text inside the selected vector element. 

Change the text case 

 Select the text block on canvas and click on button c or C or Ca to convert the selected text to lower 
case, upper case or first character of each word to upper case respectively.

Let’s use LoremIpsum to fill some dummy text in following mockup page: 

CASE A: We want to fill the place holder A with single line text of size H3 and each word starting with 
capital letters and fitting within the bounding box. 

Steps to use LoremIpsum in such scenario: 

1. Create an Empty text field to define the maximum width.

2. Select “words” from Insert dropdown and enter 5 in textfield. 
3. Select “H3” from preset dropdown and modify other Typography options to suite your 
requirements, like in this case we have unchecked the I (Itallic) checkbox to get normal style. 

 
 
4. Click on “Generate Lorem Ipsum” button. 
5. Click on “Ca” button in Case to convert the first character of each word to upper case. 

And your place holder is filled as

CASE B: We want to fill the place holder B with bulleted list of normal size text and width not exceeding 
the bounding. 

Steps to use LoremIpsum in such scenario: 

1. Create an Empty text field to define the maximum width. 

   
 
2. Select “Bulleted List” from Insert dropdown and enter 12 in textfield. 
3. Select “Paragraph(.p)” from Preset and “Default” from Font.

4. Click on “Generate Lorem Ipsum” to fill the empty text field with bulleted list. 
 

CASE C: We want to fill the area surrounding the car picture with dummy text.  

Steps to use LoremIpsum in such scenario: 

1. Draw vector path outline for area in which you want text to be filled. 

 
 
2. Select “Paragraphs” from Insert dropdown and enter 2 in textfield. 
3. Select “Paragraph(.p)” from Preset and “Default” from Font.

4. Click on “Generate Lorem Ipsum” and it will add the text inside the selected Path.
