Good afternoon, following the violence back in 2016 when Grimsby Town fans clashed violently with

Sheffield United fans, 30 men are appearing in court this week. A five day sentencing hearing is

starting to take place at Hull Crown court today. The hearing has been split into different groups

dependent on the severity of their offences. Four of the eight men are from the Grimsby and

Cleethorpes area with the other four from the surrounding area. More on this as it develops.

In other news Sainsbury’s and Asda are in talks of merging which would then send shockwaves

through British retail. The deal would be worth around £10 billion and the announcement could

come as early as Monday. This would make the second and third largest retailers would then

become a powerful rival against Tesco. It is currently unclear at how the deal would be structured,

and if the combination would be secure approval from the Competition and Markets Authority. The

chief executive of Sainsbury’s Mike Coupe said to be the driving forces behind the potential hook-up.

A Grimsby man will be appearing in court today charged with attempted murder. The offender,

Daniel Woodroffe, 26, is due to appear before magistrates’ this morning on the charge of attempted

murder and the possession of an offensive weapon within a public place on the 7th of April. A man

was taken to hospital with serious injuries following an alleged serious assault where officers from

Humberside police taped off the road. The man was then later treated at Hull Royal for serious but

non-life-threating injuries. He was released pending further investigations.

The Environmental secretary Michael Gove is set to visit the North Lincolnshire area within the

coming weeks. Provisions have been put in place for Mr Gove to visit the ports on the South bank of

the Humber later this month, and will be meeting key figures within the seafood processing industry.

There are rumours the cabinet minister would go and make good on a promise to meet Alfie

Royston, who is a pupil at New Waltham Academy. The primary school boy is running a campaign for

raising awareness of the impacts of plastic pollution which Mr Gove had prioritised since being

appointed Environment Secretary in June. For today’s weather forecast sunny with it being partly

cloudy later on in the afternoon with the high temperature being 13 degrees. I’m next in half an

hour.
