Minimum Safe Altitude (MSA)

1 Introduction

Abstract Minimum Safe Altitude is the lowest altitude providing a minimum clearance
of 1000 ft under conditions of standard temperature and pressure above all
objects located within a search area either side of the flight path.
The functionality 'Minimum Safe Altitude (MSA)' can consider the minimum
altitude over all terrain, and optionally man-made obstacles.
MSA calculations are performed based on either 'Minimum En-route
Altitude' (MEA) or 'Minimum Off-route Altitude' (MORA). MSA calculations
are particularly helpful for Data Maintenance staff involved in predefined
route building.
