In the article, “A Survey of LGBT Americans,” it was stated that 92% of the LGBT
community believe that society has become more accepting towards them in the past decade.
However, in a new nationally representative survey, only 39% say that at some point in their life,
they were rejected by a family member or a close friend due to their sexuality orientation or their
gender identity. There was a total of 30% that have been physically attacked or threatened, 29%
who have been made feel unwelcome, 21% that have been treated unfairly by their employer,
and 58% stated that they have been a target of slurs or jokes.

Now as for transgender, some identify female to male while other identify male to female
while others that identify themselves gender non-conforming. In addition, there are others that
may use the term transsexual to describe their identity. For example, a transgender identity is not
dependent upon medical procedure, so, some transgender individuals may choose to alter their
bodies through surgery or hormonal therapy, or many choose not to do so.

People in the LGBT community, about 49% say that the best way to achieve equality is
to become a part of the mainstream culture while the other 49% say that LGBT adults should be
able to achieve equality while still maintaining their own district culture and way of life. That is
one subject that surprised me because I do believe that any person that is in the LGBT
community should live their life they way how they feel comfortable. If they still believe in their
own religion and want to go to church, they should have the right to do so because is their own
beliefs.
