Bethany is arrested for shoplifting a candy bar from the local drug
store. At trial she is found guilty. The judge decides that an appropriate
punishment is that she get her hand cut off so she will never shoplift
again.

the principal instituted a new rule that requires students to say a prayer
before school starts.

You are in the security line at the airport. The TSA agent requires you
to take off your coat and shoes, and empty your pockets. She then asks
you to step through the metal detector and pats you down.

Scenario #4

A neighbor is suing the Joneses because their tree fell down in the
backyard. The neighbor asks for $700 for all repairs. Mr. Jones
requests that a jury be present to hear the case. The judge says it is not
necessary because the amount of money needed for repairs is so small.
