SIOP Reflection

Richard Hembury

The objectives for the lesson was for the student to have a better understanding of the bill

of rights and specifically the four that were more deeply explained throughout the lesson. We

achieved this goal because throughout the lesson we asked for the student to clarify what we

were speaking about randomly throughout the lesson but also the worksheet that was completed

at the end of class reflected the content that we taught in class which the student completed

answering all questions correctly.

We challenged the students understanding of the vocabulary because at the beginning of

the lesson we asked what the student knew about the topic and her knowledge was relatively

limited and throughout the lesson she re affirmed that she had never heard many pf the words

used in class before. She acquired these words because in her explanations on the worksheet

reflected the content and vocab taught in class that she had no knowledge of prior.

I believe that the lesson went well and as planned the student was engaged and in a

comfortable environment where she did not feel like she was being bombarded with questions

that she could not answer after proper instruction. Overall the lesson seemed to be successful and

enjoyable for the student as well as both instructors.

If the student were an English language learner I would make changes to the PowerPoint

adding Spanish words next to key ideas or words so that he or she can better grasp the topic also
I would learn certain prompt words in their language to help direct their learning lastly I would

add a video in Spanish for that child so they could better understand the concepts.
