AC ENERGITATION OF AN RL CIRCUIT

In this third exercise, we Will examine the transient responde of a simple RL circuit to an ac
voltaje energization; in particular, we Will look at the dc offset in the response current from
anergizing at different points of the ac voltaje wave. The circuit and its SIMULINK simulation
are shown in FIG

The circuit equation for the RL circuit with an ac source is

For simulation purposes, the above equation is rearranged into its integral form

The above integral equation is implemented in the SIMULINK file s3 using a summer and an
integrator. The ac voltaje source is represented by a sinusoidal signal source from the source
library block. Set the circuit parameter values of R L and set the initial value of the current toz
ero, the magnitude of the sinusoidal source to 100 volts, its frecuency, ws, to 314 rad/sec, and
its phase angle,b, toz ero. Select the ode45 or linsim numerical integration method and set the
start time to zero, the stop time to 0.5 seconds, the mínimum step size to 1 msec, the
maximun step size to 10 msec, and the error tolerance to 1e-5. Run the simulation.

Repeat the run using two different values of b,b=pi/2 b=tan-1 wsL/R. examine the simulated
responde of i(t) to determine whether the initial dc offset, the decay of the dc offset, and the
final steady-state magnitude and phase of i(t) agree with the corresponding values predicted
from the following analysis:

The complete response of the current to a sinusoidal excitation of Vpk sin(Wst+b)u(t) may be
expressed as
