What is an IRB and what is it for?

IRB is a independent committee comprised of at least 5 members from relevant academic

disciplines or experience. IRB is for them to review research submitted by researcher such as
students, faculty or staff. The IRB is charged with reviewing all projects involving human
subjects for compliance with institutional policies and state, local, and federal laws.

Review your proposed research design, would it require IRB approval? Why or why not?

I believe my research design would require IRB approval since I would be observing human
subjects. I would need consent from the school to observe the students.

Identity 2-3 potential ethical dilemmas (refer to Cresswell reading) you might face in your research design. How
might/will you address them?

Ethical issues that may arise is confidentiality. Some students would not want to share their
experiences with peer pressure. To prevent this I would make the survey anonymous and tell
them they can be honest since no one would know.
