Lesson Plan
Student Age Group:
● 2-8 years of age

Learning Objectives:
● Students will listen to the story as it’s read aloud.
● Students will know how to sequence the days of the week.
● Students will be able to count out the food that the hungry caterpillar eats each day.
● Students will learn about the caterpillar's growth cycle - from birth to metamorphosis.

Core Standards:
● Kindergarten Reading Standard 3: With prompting and support, identify characters, settings, and
major events in a story.
● Kindergarten Reading Standard 6: With prompting and support, name the author and illustrator of
a story and define the role of each in telling the story.
● Kindergarten Reading Standard 1: With prompting and support, ask and answer questions about
key details in a text.

Lesson Structure:
● Prepare the props, computer, and slides for the projector
● Introduce the book title, author, and illustrator
● Read the book while showing illustrations and props
● Write the days of the week on the board to show the students what the caterpillar eats each day
● Give the students gummy worms
● Go over the discussion questions with the students
