Introduction: What are the data sets you chose? Why did you choose them? What do you
expect to find?
I chose to compare the prices between Minnesota and Chicago’s gas prices because it
was not only easy to find data for them, but I wanted to see how inflation affected each
country and wanted to see how hard it was to afford diesel-based transportation for
drivers.
Data sets: insert image of data sets with mean, median, mode,Q1, Q3, IQR, and standard

deviation

Mean, median, or mode: Which method do you believe is the best measure of “average” in
your data and why? Compare the measures of both data sets. What does this tell comparison
tell you?

Histogram Comparison: Paste your histograms and briefly summarize what they tell you about
the distribution of data. What are the differences/similarities in your groups?
Box-Plot Comparison: Paste your box-plot and briefly summarize what it tells you about the
distribution of data. What is the 25%/50%/25% distribution of each. What are the
differences/similarities in the quartiles?

Outlier Comparison: Remove any outliers you have identified in one of your data sets. If you
have no outliers, add a realistic outlier to one of your data sets. Compare the standard
deviations with and without. Compare the box-plots and normal distributions with and without.
With the outlier, the standard deviation sat at a 1.6, compared to my regular 1.0 that I
normally had. As the outlier’s number gets set higher, so too does my standard
deviation. The Box-plot gets completely screwed up by outliers, extending much farther
outwards when added in.
What affect did the outlier have on your data set? Did removing it give a more accurate
measure of the data?
The outlier increased standard deviation and extended the Box-plot. Removing it gave a
much better and more realistic outlook of the data.

Conclusion and Analysis: Based on your statistical analysis, what conclusions can you make
about your data set? How would you use these statistics to persuade someone, make a point
about a topic, or use this information in a debate? Use your graphs and specific data points to
help make your point or arguement. This section must be a complete paragraph (at least 5
sentences)

I think that I could use this to tell how hard it is to live in California. As one can see, the
prices are much higher in California than Minnesota. This makes transportation more expensive
for people. I believe that this would be important as a portion of the reason that California’s
economy is failing. Whether it is a cyclical or not is to be decided in time, but this could be used
to convince one that such is the case.
