Cleaning a Hold

There are many different types of cargoes which are commonly carried in bulk in today's market, and
they all require different methods of hold cleaning, although one basic rule always applies.

Steps

1. Removal of cargo residue:

Air Blow from top using high pressure air to reach all accessible corners. Cargo to be swept,
scrapped & collected in a drum.

2. Loose Rust & Paint Scale

A sharp hand scraper shall be used to take off the peeling rust & paint scale

3. Tank top loose rust

Tank top should be free of loose rust and cargo residue

Any rust which can be scraped by hand scrapers should be removed.

The tank top should be rinsed with fresh water

4. Cleanliness of cargo hold bilges

Hold bilges must be cleaned thoroughly to remove all residue, rust particles and cargo stains etc.
