1. Figure 1 is a simplified block diagram of the Crude Distillation unit and the main units to
process the distillation products.

Considering this figure, briefly answer the following questions:

a. What kind of pre-treatment does the crude oil receive, prior to entering the distillation
column? What is the benefit of such pre-treatment?
b. Identify processes 1 to 8 and briefly outline the main function of each process.
c. What are the main undesirable components in the crude, which need to be removed?
What problems do they cause if they remain?  

 
 

2. Summarize on the Synthesis Gas using Fischer-Tropsch technology and its uses.
