To whom it may concern ( Home Depot),

On Thursday May 10th Sandowne Elementary will be holding its 2nd Annual Maker Day and we
are in need of some building materials/connecters for the students to use. Any donation would
be greatly appreciated and be put to very good use and create a great opportunity for young
engineers, designers, and creators.
What is Maker Day?
Maker Day is a day where grade 5 students thoughtfully, and fully, engage in design thinking
and creative problem solving. On this day students will be given the challenge of solving a
problem. Teams will need to: identify a problem; think about the problem; design a solution to
the problem; and build a prototype of their solution.
This year’s challenge is to create an emergency shelter prototype that can shelter 4 people for
72 hours and includes waste and water systems.
Maker Day allows students to create a real solution to real world problems using real building
materials.
A list of materials that we are in search of are:

 Duct Tape
 Electrical tape
 Plastic ( poly or scraps)
 Cardboard
 Drywall anchors
 PVC piping and joints/elbows
 Bamboo stakes
 Any miscellaneous scrap wood or building materials
 Screws

Thank you very much for your support,
