The drafting and enforcement of the constitution create unity and tension in early

America through compromises and the two different groups of anti-federalist vs. federalist.
When speaking of unity, compromising was key. In the Great Compromise, it states, “
This debate threatened to go on endlessly until Roger sherman of Connecticut came forward… in
one house of congress, the house of representatives, and equal representation in the other, the
senate.” This quotes explains the debate in which happened a threat was proposed, which led to
an idea in which all were able to compromise with. This shows unity by all coming to an
agreement, settling it rather than acting negative and pushing that threat to come. Unity was also
shown in COmpromise in the Constitution, the text states, “ The delegates agreed that the
legislative branch… was unanimity within the assembly.” With that said the delegates were able
to come forward with total agreement. This shows unity due to them coming together forming a
compromise of having two houses.
With the good always comes bad, though unity was a positive there was tension. This
tension was raised between two groups: Anti-federalist vs. Federalist. In The Anti-Federalist , it
states, “ The origin of society, then, is to be found, not in any natural right.. But by ensuring to
the people such of their essential rights.” This states that the Anti-federalist believe we should
have the bill of rights. By having the bill of rights it will give out essential rights the people need.
This causes tension because federalist believe otherwise. When two groups do not agree tension
rises. In The Federalist View, it states, “I go further and state that the bill of rights.. Are not only
unnessary in proposed constitution but would even be dangerous.” This quote states people
would be in danger if the bill of rights is enforced. This gives tension with anti-federalist because
they believe otherwise. There will be an argument/ tension no matter who wins because of the
beliefs of the both groups.
Taken together , this proves that the drafting and enforcement of the constitution
create unity and tension in early America through compromises and the two different
groups of anti-federalist vs. federalist.
