a) Define Manifest Destiny.
i Manifest Destiny is the doctrine that said God gave the US the right to expand and expansion was
justified.
b) Give at least ONE piece of evidence of how the idea of Manifest Destiny served to guide the
practice of the American government.
i The US pretty much stole areas that still belonged to Mexico during its early years. An example of
this is Texas. Texas still formally belonged to Mexico, but the US annexed Texas without talking
to Mexico about it at all.
c) Evaluate the impact of Manifest Destiny on ONE of the following, making sure to provide at least
ONE piece of evidence to support your description:
i The American Indians were subject firsthand to the atrocities of Manifest Destiny within the US.
During expansion the US government had no regard for the Native Americans or their land. All
the US government cared about was to get more land, and they did not care who they had to go
through along the way.
