DANICA PATRICK
My name is Danica Patrick. 1 am a freshman at Hononegah High
School. Iam fourteen years old and this is my sixth year of racing go karts
I started go kart racing at the age of ten. My dad had been big into racing
his whole life o thats the reason for geting into motor sports. My first
‘season in go karts I received a second place for the years points series. [was
not satisfied with second for long,
‘The next year was the first time racing at the national level. In my
first race I got FIRST! Afer that it was purely a learning experience for me.
In the 1984 season I did quite well. Finishing the year out with five
national wins and one national year end point championship,
For 1995 I decided to move up to the older age bracket which. was the
twelve to sixteen year olds. There were many kids (boys) in the races that I
ran that year. For my first year in the class I was content with my end of the
‘year finishes which was one regional championship and three second place
finishes in the national points series.
‘This past year was a year that I really made an impression on people.
Topened up the season with two first place wins in the first national race
weekend ofthe year. After that Ihad many wins. My race record was 35
wins out of 45 races. Along with that was five regional championships, one
grand national win, and two national point championships. | also got to
meet Indy car driver Lyn St. James. attended her driver development
school in Indianapolis, Indiana. While I was there we got to know each
other pretty well. When the need for a young and up coming driver for a TV
show came up she thought of me. This is how I was able to be on thetelevision show "Passion to Play" which will be aired on Sunday, March
16th at 4:00 central on ABC Sports. ‘This show is about what it takes to be a
ime TV on May 23rd, I don't know the time of
that show yet. That show is called "Women Behind Wheels’. Overall the
1996 season was terrific for me.

‘My short term plans are to race in Europe this year, move on to cars
next year and eventually make it to Indy cars one day!
