My name is Nicholas Humphreys Lucas, and my group partners Miles Carr,
Harris Ewald, and Hank Gardner are working on a High school geometry project. For our geometry high school project, we were required to choose a product and try and make the product packaging more efficient. Upon opening the 10 count waffles package, we realized we could make a few minor adjustments to the packaging. This means we could decrease the amount of cardboard used and therefore decrease the price of packaging production. When we created the prototype for your product packaging we decided to make the package have an octagonal base. We did this when we created a smaller rectangular prism, and cut off the corners. There was an especially large amount of wasted space in the plastic wrap placed around the eggos. So we decided to put the eggos in a stack of 10 and recommend fitting the plastic wrap to the size of the stack. Then for the ease of opening the package we created 3 tabs. Two tabs opposite of each other for the attachment of the base to the sides, and one tab so the top of packaging can be open and closed easily. Originally your package only used 60.3% of the package being used with 3 819𝑐𝑚 of unused airspace. When we created the prototype we were able to save176𝑐𝑚3 and increase the amount of airspace used by 5%. We also reduced the net surface area by 252 𝑐𝑚2 which means that the pricing of package production will decrease. Decreasing the product space and material usage will make the packaging more environmentally friendly. When we placed the eggos in a stack of 10 we were able to cut off some plastic in the prototype and still fully conceal the eggos in plastic. While you will have to create new fitting pictures to be added to the new shape. This new information could be used in advertisements as the eco-friendly eggo box that is cheaper to produce.
Sincerely,
Nicholas Humphreys Lucas Harris Ewald
