I’m going to tell you about some of the parts of a sailing boat. I’m also going to tell you what
materials they are made from, and the properties of those materials.

First of all, I want to mention the first part, part a. This is the hull of the boat. The hull is usually
made of fibreglass. This material, fibreglass, is used because fibreglass is a very hard material. It
cannot be cut or scratched easily by rocks in the sea.
Secondly, I want to mention the second part, part b. This is the rudder. The rudder is often made of
wood. This material, wood, is used because it doesn’t rust easily.
The third part, part c, is the sail. The sail is often made of polyester. This is because polyester has
great resistance to water. If it falls into the sea, it does not absorb water, so it is easy to pull out of
the water.
The final part which I want to mention is part d. This is the mast. The mast of a boat is usually made
of aluminium. This material, aluminium, is used because it is very light. The sailor can carry it to the
boat easily.

I’m going to tell you about some of the parts of a small aeroplane. I’m also going to tell you what
materials they are made from, the properties of those materials, and also the functions of the parts.
First of all, let me tell you about part A. This is called the fuselage. It’s made of aluminium.
Aluminium is used because of its lightness. The main function of the fuselage is to contain the
passengers and the cargo.
The second part is part B. This is called a strut. The strut is made of steel, and this metal is used
because of its toughness and strength. The main purpose of the strut is to support the wing.
Finally I’m going to tell you about the third part, part C. This is called the window. This is usually
made of plastic. Plastic is used for the window (and not glass) because it is a very tough material. It
doesn’t break easily. It is also transparent. The main function of the window is to allow the pilot to
see outside the plane

Different materials are used for making different things. Copper is used for making electric wires
