Biography

Imagine being in a time of rebirth and being one of the most famed artists in
the world. Being renounced even to this day, being loved and still providing help
to the world. Imagine being able to be one of the best artists, inventors, and
scientists of your time. What you are picturing now is the life of the great
Renaissance man, Leonardo da Vinci. He is most well known today as an artist, but
he is so much more, and he did so much more than just painting.
There are not many people who can
be an expert artist, and inventor, and still
have free time to study new sciences,
such as the motion of water. Leonardo da
Vinci did it all, from painting arguably
the most famous picture ever, to inventing
the parachute, to discovering the
scientific method.
Not much was known about da
Vinci’s childhood except the fact that he
was born on April 14, 1452. After this we
know he was an apprentice to the best artist in Florence, Andrea del Verrocchio at
the age of 15. After his brief apprenticeship he stayed on at the workshop as an
assistant, and learned a lot from Andrea, “Leonardo, after completing his
apprenticeship, stayed on as an assistant in Verrocchio's shop. His earliest known
painting is in Verrocchio's Baptism of Christ” (Leonardo…). This would
inhibitively lead him to his great future and success in art
and sketching inventions.
Leonardo da Vinci was made most famous by his
painting the Mona Lisa. Leonardo didn’t just have one
famous painting though, he had many. Others include:
The Last Supper, Annunciation, and St. John the
Baptist. He had so much fame, and so many great
achievements, but one thing he didn’t get enough
credit for is discovering the scientific method. He had
discovered it but never talked much about it. 100 years
later “discovered” by Galileo Galilei and taken credit by
him and 2 others who helped with it, “Leonardo also conducted dozens of carefully
thought out experiments and created futuristic inventions that were groundbreaking
for the time” (da Vinci…). Leonardo da Vinci was so important to our history,
with inventions, scientific discoveries, and entertainment from his art. He is still
honored today for his art and magnificent inventions and discoveries.
