The Mesopotamian culture

Meaning 'between two rivers’. Mesopotamians had agriculture and domesticated

animals. Babylon is probably the first city built by settled people. Mesopotamia was also
the place where the wheel was first used.
One of the main characteristics of the archaeological sites in the area is that it was
found in the large number of texts written in cuneiform, on raw clay tablets, which
resisted well the passage of time, which they did not know was some of the first pages
of the history of mankind.

The cultures of Mesopotamia were pioneers in many branches of knowledge; they

developed the writing that was called cuneiform, in principle pictographic and later
phonetics; in the field of law, they created the first codes of laws; in architecture, they
developed important advances such as the vault and the dome, created a calendar of
12 months and 360 days and invented the sexagesimal numbering system. His
remains, although perhaps there are still many to discover, show a culture that exerted
a powerful influence on other civilizations of the time and therefore on the development
of Western culture.
