spectrometry is one of the most important and useful analytical techniques used in
chemistry. it uses light for the measurement of concentration. the darker the
colour of a solution the more concentrated the solution will be. however stictly
speaking this is not the only use of spectrophotometery. it has successfully been
used in the determination of structure of molecules and also in reaction kinetics.
if an analyte to be studied is colourless, it can either be changed into another
coloured product by a suitable chemical reagent or it can also be studied as such.
