MULTI - STOREY STEEL BUILDING SYSTEMMULTI - STOREY STEEL BUILDING SYSTEMS
ulti - storey buildings in steel have been used extensively in Eurape and surrounding areas since the 1940's.
With taday’s advanced technology and latest innovations, the use of structural steel and concrete campasite
design is being applied inthe construction of muti - storey buildings. In addition to a faster construction speed
‘an increased economy is achieved when applying such design techniques.
COMPARISON BETWEEN CONCRETE FRAMED AND STEEL FRAMED BUILDING
CONCRETE FRAMED BUILDINGS: STEEL FRAMED BUILDINGS
Slower construction Fester construction by upto times that of
soncrete framed buildings
Delayed revene generation on account af Envir revenue generation from completed
longer construct buildings
Internal props/ shuttering required "No internal props/ shuttering required
Higher cast of fnance Lower ost of finance
Works dependant on fer weather in many instances ‘Ml weather construction possible
Langer spans and fewer columns only possible wth Longer spans and fewer colarms possible with a
heavier design lighter structure
| Higher lods lead to increased foundation Lighter building loads result in reduced
casts foundation costs
Deeper beams thicker slabs increase the nominal | Shallower beam and slab heights can result in reduced
arto oor heights flor to floor heights wth seme functionality
Higher overall costs Lower overall costs
Enhanced concrete usagehas a more profaund impact | Reduced eanerete use is mare environmentally friendly,

FBTR TEM TTLSTRUCTURAL STEELWORK SPECIFICATIONS
The applicable British Standard specifications shall apply appropriate ta materials and workmanship,
2, AM steelwark to be manually cleaned with wire brush and painted with one caat of red oxide zincpant before dispatch,
3. All bolts to be mild steel and to have a tensile strength of not more than 432N/mm? (28tons /inch’) and a minimum elongation
of (7%, All steel washers to be mild steel.
4, Where applicable all high tensile nuts and washers to have @ minimum tensile strength of S70N/mm? (87tons /inch’).
DECKING SHEETS
Decking sheets are fixed to the top flange of beams with self dling screws. The decking sheets are designed to free
span between the beams, therefore eliminating the need for props and shuttering during the casting of the concrete slab.
This makes the construction method very quick and efiient since the contractor does nat need to wait for the curing
time ofthe concrete stb before maving ta upper subsequent floor eves

+ The decking sheets acts as permanent shutter supporting both the construction and final design loads end therefore the
bottom of the shutter acts as the slab soffit finish.
+ The composite steel beam and concrete deck system can be designed to accommodate loads of 2.kn/n* for light weight
office blacks and I0.0kn/n' far heavy industrial ned and carpark systems.
As the design lnad increases aditonal reinforcement can be added tothe slab to resist high shear laads and longitudinal
loading stress,
