Exemplary Teacher Observation Reflection Form

Teacher Candidate for Science Endorsement: Purity Kamau

Exemplary Teacher Initials: VM

School: Brumby Elementary Grade: K

Lesson Topic: Pushes and Pulls

The lesson started by the watching a song that involved movement on the smart board.
The teacher then read a book to the class as she asked questions along the way. The
learners were then divided into various groups to move various objects in different
ways-pushing and pulling. The students were fully engaged throughout the lesson. The
students who could not handle complex tasks were given simpler tasks- their marble
runs were simple, they had one track through which they were required to roll their toy
cars up and down-other students had more complex marble runs and were required to
move objects in different directions and vary the speed. The teacher constantly
checked on them to ensure they were doing the right thing. The students were allowed
to move through different stations. The lesson was inquiry-based. The one thing I would
improve on would be to take a lesson in a more spacious room to let the students
explore more freely.

The lessons objectives were met because the students were able to move the objects in
different direction. They could demonstrate a push and a pull and explain/demonstrate
how to make the objects change direction and move slower or faster.

It was interesting to see students who had various challenges thoroughly enjoy the
lesson and carry out the tasks effectively. Some may not have had the words to explain
what they were doing but they were able to demonstrate the same when asked to.
Doing is the way to learn!
