CONCLUSION

From the technical talk given by Dr Haryati Awang, there were a lot of knowledge and

exposure given to students. She briefly explained what Geology is all about and how does

Geology relates to Civil Engineering. Students were exposed on how Geology has played an

important part in megastructures in Malaysia such as the Petronas Twin Towers, SMART

Tunnel and others. It was an interesting introduction that made students wanted to learn

more on how Geology works in building constructions. The talk also includes a lot of

knowledge on our course contents such as Earth structures, tectonic plates, the rock cycle,

rock identifications and others. From there, we knew the importance of geological map,

geological features and identification of minerals and rocks as it is related to the jobscope as

a Civil Engineer and it is important for an engineer to identify all that before planning to

construct infrastructures. We also got to know the learning outcomes of the course ECG253

as it was briefly explained during the talk. We were also exposed on new terms related to

Geology such as Rebound Hardness Test, Bore Log and Non Destructive Investigation.

Overall, it was a good exposure to students on why and how geology has to be studied as it

is closely related to Civil Engineering
