NON-FICTION RESPONSE: CODE BLUE SURVEILLANCE POLES

1. The main idea of the text is that “Code Blue” is helpful because it helps stop all the crime
and violence, valuable because it strengthens security and addresses public safety
throughout the whole city.
2. The connection i can make between this article and other texts i’ve read is that people
always try to promote safety in any way possible whether it’s through surveillance or
security.
3. The author’s purpose is to inform and persuade. A: the specific words and phrases that
led me to this conclusion is when the author mentions that the author uses the word
provide a lot.
4. The audience is people in the United States who are concerned of public safety and the
crime occurring where they’re from. I know this because he uses fear. The choice of
audience affects the text by it being more biased.
5. Author uses fear of death to persuade Americans that surveillance is needed in order to be
safe.
6. Ethos and Pathos are the most prevalent in the writing.
7. One theme for this text can be that we should be more attentive with crime and pay
attention to surveillance.
8. It helps me understand that the poles actually help provide safety for those in
emergencies and when there is crime happening nearby.
9. I wouldn’t change anything in this text.
10. Code blue surveillance poles are essential because they are helpful to keep around the
city and stop crime. They are essential because they provide a solution for those in
emergencies and don’t have phones or anything disposable to reach the police. Author
Greg Lee from the article “Surveillance poles to combat crime in Santa Ana” mentions
that Officer Laufer said, “It provides evidentiary value if a crime occurs. It's an additional
resource for the public, not everyone has cell phones," (Lee). This demonstrates that this
can be helpful to people who don’t have phones or any way of communication or just got
their phone stolen by a criminal. Having these code blue surveillance poles can be very
helpful and essential around the city.
