Aftar the present bit is completed, the “ests lood the "present bi ‘memory with the information that is if the “next Bit memories." Each dot, dash, and off time is uniform because of the clock which produces uniformly spaced pulses. The bit generator then responds to the cleck pulses and the ot/dass determining line to produce 2 dot (or a dash that is thee times longer thon the doth and an off time. The output eicusty dives the Keyer output and sidetone circuitry Because of the sequence of digital logic involved, the clock wil be explained fies clock “The clock consists of transistors QT, Q2, and ther essociated circuitry. When ICI pin 8 i high the clock is csabled. Capacitor C3 charges through diode D1 and biases Q1 off, With Q1 off, he base of Q2 is high. Therefore, 2s also off fend the clock output i low. Note that the high on ICI pin & ie also applied through D2 to ICA pin 5. When ICI pin 8 goes low (bit being sent), ICHA, changes state. D1 is then back biased and C3 begins to decharge through resistor 9, Speed control R101, and resistor R11, When is voltage drops ta the bare Potential of O1, Q1 begins to turn on. The collector of GY and the bate of Q2 begin to go lest positive and turn on 2. As O2 turns on, ie rising eolector potenti is coupled through capacitor CA to the bare of QT and turns it on harder, Thus the condition i regenerative and happens very quickly “The output i now high. This high on the collector of Q2 is appli to ICA pin 5 by diode D3. C3 charg quickly through resistor RT, the boxe emitter junetion fof G2 and G1. CA discharges and QI turns off, thus turning off 2, This hightolow transition on ICA pin 5 again changes the state of IC4A. Note that 12, 03, and resistor R12 form an “OR” gate and thst IC4A changes state when ICI pin 8 goes low (when the paddle is fst keyed), and onthe trailing a0ge of each clock pulse BIT GENERATOR ‘The bit generator is composed of IC4A and 6, and IC3C. In the resting condition, IC4A and 8 ae reset (0 outputs low). The highs an 1C3 pins 1,2, and 13 cause 1C3 pin 12 10 be low (key-up). If 1C4 pin 2s low, ICAB cannot change state. The waveform in Figure 10 show how dots and dashes are formed, Note that if 1C4 pin 2is low, dots aro generated if tis high, dashes are generate. NEXT-BIT MEMORIES (NBM) “There are two “next bit memories" one for dots, composed of gates ICA end ICZA, and one for dashes, composed of gates ICT and IC2B. Each pair of gates is cross-coupled to form an RS (street) tip lop. Sings their operation He similar, only the dash NEM will be discussed, Page 62 ors DASHES “UU 1 L ems TE. mer Lou Luu ted PIN LD t ome op $1 N \ br PADOLE CLOSED “DASH PADDL Figure 10 non no biti being sent, 1C2 pin ishigh sine the clock is low. The dash NBM isin the rest condition, wth IC2 pin 6 high and IC pin 3 low. Ths tow i toplied to 1C3 pin 4. Therefore, 1C3 pin 6 is high, (Similarly, (C3 pin 8 is eo high) When the dash peddle is keyed, {C1 pin 1 is grounded momentarily through the paddle contact, This causes 1C1 pin 3 to go high. 1C2 pins 4 and § fare both high, 40 1C2 pin 6 goes low. This low is applied to IC1 pin 2 and holes TCI pin 3 high after the paddle is released, 1C3B. now has a high on all three input, 40 pin 6 is low. Ths low fs applied to IC} pin 19, and 1C1 pin 17 goes high. ICt pin goes low, aed the bit generator bogins to form a dash (since C4 in 2 is high. PRESENT-BIT MEMORY (PBM) Note that ICQA and B form an FS flipflop which, depending on its tae, causes ‘the bit generator to form dots or dashes as described inthe section on the bit generator, RESET CIRCUITRY [At the end of a bit, whether dot oF dash she PBM must assume the stat ofthe ext bit to be sent, This ¢ accomplished by the reset circuitry. IC5B, 1C20, fesitor A and capacitor C1 form the dash eset circuit. (The dot rset ireitry Jb composed of ICBA, 1C2C, resistor R4, and capecitor C2 operates the 1314) Tomi operation requires that if both paddles ae closed, orf the dot paddle keyed during @ desh bit or the dath paddle is Keyed during 2 dot bit, the next bit must be opposite to that being sent. [Assume a dot is being sent. This means that IC3 pin 8 is fow and 1C3 pin 6 hhh. This high s applied to 1C5 pin 9 and holds 1C5 pin 10 fow. The trai ledge of the cock pulse oscurting a the end ofthe dot bit mark takes 1C3 pin 12 tow, At tis tine, ICSA has both ioputs low, and ICS pin 13 goes high. Tht tndbles 1C2C for the next clack pulse, which occurs atthe end of the dot bit ‘Toe leading edge of this clock pulse takes 1C2 pin 11 low. This will rset the dot [NEM ‘onest the dot paddle is stil closed, Ifthe dash paddle as not been closed, then there is alow on 1C3 pin 4 which holds IC3 pin 6 high, and the PEM cannot {Change state. Thus the next bit will be another dot. If however, the dash paddle has been keyed sometime during the dot bit, then 1C3 pin 4 wil be high. When 12 pin 11 goes low, IC3 pin 10 goes low, and 1C3 pin 8 goes high, Then (C28 has all inputs high s0 IC3 pin 6 goes lw and holds IC3 pin B hgh following the tock pulke. On the trailing edge of this clock pulse, the bit generator begins 8 Gash, since 1C4 pin 2 high [A necessary delay is provided by R3 and C1. Recall that when the PBM changed state, 1C3 pin 6 went low on the leading edge of the clock pulse. IC3 pin 12 does rot go high uni the trailing edge of the clock pulke. Were it aot forthe delay, 1G2 pins 9 and 10 would be high, and the low on IC2 pin B would remove the dh from this memory if one were stored there OUTPUT CIRCUITRY \When 1C3 pin 12 goes high (mark condition), it turns on the Dartington pat, ‘tanistors Q6 and 7, which will key positive lines to ground. Transistor O8 {He turns on, thus turning on transistor O5 and keying negative lines to ground ‘rough the power supply and resistor R25. Note that no more than 2eproximately 10 mA may be keyed by this cicut since tsa constant current Sk which imits at 10 mA, Diodes D4 and DS isolate the two sections, SIDETONE OSCILLATOR “The Sidetone Oscillator is made up of 1C5 C and , which ate cross-coupled to form an astable muitivibrator, It is enabled when ICS pin 6 goes low, Its output Is coupled to 03, which drives the speaker. POWER SUPPLY “Tho Power Supply is a conventional series regulated bridge circuit that supplies 45 volts. Diode DS protects the power supply against reversed better polarity. ogee CIRCUIT BOARD X-RAY VIEWS note ‘To find the PART NUMBER of 2 component for the purpose of ordering replacement: A.
