Aminophylline is an injection containing 24 mg of theophylline ethylenediamine per ml. It is indicated for bronchial asthma, coronary insufficiency, biliary spasms, and biliary colic. For adults, the recommended dosage is 250-500 mg administered intravenously slowly. The bolus dosage is 5 mg/kg of body weight in 50cc of 0.9% NaCl over 20 minutes. Maintenance dosage is 15-20 mg/kg of body weight intravenously in dextrose 10% and sodium bicarbonate 4:1.
