Cisco Networking Academy Program Lab Configurations and Pricing

Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
Last Revised - 01/10/2006

Equipment and pricing are subject to change. The pricing in this document reflects only USD. International theaters may choose to develop pricing that
reflects these offerings.

During the time an Academy is actively involved in the Cisco Networking Academy Program, they have the following options when purchasing equipment for
their Networking Academy lab. These bundles are made available at a special Academy discount and are offered only to Networking Academies. There is no
limit to the number or type of CCNA lab bundles that an eligible Academy is allowed to purchase for dedicated use during their participation in the Academy
Program.

Once an Academy has purchased an initial complete lab bundle, the Academy may purchase individual bundle items for dedicated Academy Program use.
Individual items are offered at the Academy discount of 50 percent on listed bundle components and 60 percent off SMARTnet for those individual items. No
other promotions are valid in conjunction with Academy discounts.

Please note that SMARTnet is a program requirement. In addition to purchasing SMARTnet for lab bundle purchases, Academies should also purchase
SMARTnet for single bundle items.

Individuals interested in purchasing labs for an Academy multiple must include on the purchase order (PO) the name and address of every school for which
they are purchasing a lab.

NOTE: The CCNA bundles for the Cisco Networking Academy Program may be available or discontinued at different dates in each theater/country.

The pricing in these documents reflects pricing for U.S. Academies and is in USD. International theaters may choose to develop pricing that reflects
these offerings. Shipping charges are not included in the final price of each Networking Academy bundle.

Product which is donated to Regional CCNA Academies or Local approved Empowerments may not necessarily be the products
represented on this price list. Please do not quote donation values from this price list. Contact your AAM for details.

Annotations
Discontinued products and technology advancements necessitate changes in equipment of CCNA and CCNP lab bundles.

Market technology and business conditions effect all users of high-tech equipment, including Academies. These conditions may present Cisco World Wide
Education with changes in product availability, functionality, and pricing on short notice and at inopportune times for the education market.

Lab choices are offered to Academies to best accommodate varying needs and tight, pre-planned budgets. Leasing is also an option. International and
domestic considerations and Cisco sales standards are reflected in the lab offerings.

CCNA 3.x Equipment

Cisco is maximizing protection of existing equipment while also attempting to keep student-to-equipment ratios low to maximize students’ experiences in lab-
centric courses.
· Six routers (any of 16xx, 17xx, 1841, 25xx, 26xx, and 28xx are usable) with a minimum of two serial, one Ethernet; at least one of the six should have a
FastEthernet interface and be 802.1q-capable
· "Generic" labs explicitly refer to the fact that any of 16xx, 17xx, 25xx, 26xx are usable. 806 routers are useful for many labs, but have no serial ports, cannot
run OSPF, and do not support 802.1q VLANs
· Three switches, all command-line configurable (most 19xx after upgrade to Enterprise software, 29xx) and at least one which is 802.1q-capable
· Various topologies are used, especially two-router, three-router, two-switch, three-switch.
· NETLAB accomodates two-router and three-router topologies.

Advantages of Six Routers, Three Switches:

1) Improved student-to-equipment ratios for CCNA 3.x topologies: Six routers and three switches allow two separate networks of three routers and three
separate networks of two routers. Three switches allow one, two, and three-switch topologies, as well as adding switches to any of the router topologies.
2) Improved lab throughput for students: more lab networks means more lab groups can be performing the same lab at the same time
3) Increased Likelihood of Newer Technologies: If all of your existing lab equipment is comprised of 2500-series routers and 1900-series switches, upgrading
your bundle with 1841-routers and 2950-switches provides the following: a modular router, support for 802.1q VLAN trunking, examples of some of Cisco’s
newest preferred network access-level switches and routers, and a wider variety of hardware and IOS features
4) Recent pricing improvements make the upgrade even more attractive
Implications of Remaining at five routers and two switches:
1) Less than optimal student-to-equipment ratio: Five routers and two (or even one) switches allow only one three-router network and two two-router networks.
2) Less than optimal lab-throughput for student groups: less lab networks means less lab groups can be performing the same lab at the same time.
3) Decreased Likelihood of Newer Technologies: If all of your existing lab equipment is comprised of 2500-series routers and 1900-series switches, NOT
upgrading your bundle with at least one 1721-router and 2950-switch DEPRIVES students of the following: access to a modular router, support for 802.1q VLAN
trunking, examples of some of Cisco’s newest preferred network access-level switches and routers, and a wider variety of hardware and IOS features.
