    Malnutrition among children under age 5 in the Democratic Republic of Congo was examined based on geographic location. Data from the 2007 DRC Demographic and Health Survey showed children in eastern DRC had higher rates of stunting (51.4%) and underweight (33.7%) compared to western DRC (stunting at 44.7%, underweight at 27.4%). Geographic location was significantly associated with malnutrition, with children in eastern DRC at higher risk after accounting for household characteristics. Improving food security and access to healthcare may help reduce geographic disparities in child malnutrition.
