I. Course Overview
➢ This course is not exactly divided into 6-week segments, but rather by unit. The list of units we are going
to study includes:
● Motion in 1-Dimension ● Collisions/Explosions

● Motion in 2-Dimensions ● Gravity

● Rotational Motion ● Newton’s Laws

● Harmonic/Oscillatory Motion ● Electric Circuits pt. 1

➢ A strong effort on the AP Physics 1 summer assignment is essential for a good start to your physics
career! Summer assignments can be accessed on the Rayburn AP Physics website (see top of syllabus)
and should be completed by the 2nd day of class in the 2018-2019 school year.

II. Attendance/Tardiness
➢ Perfect attendance in class is required and expected if you are going to be successful. I follow the school
tardy policy strictly.

III. Preparation
➢ Students must bring with them to class: binder, pencil/pen, calculator, notebook.
➢ Students must come prepared to discuss videos, reading, or homework from previous night.

IV. Class Environment/Rules

➢ All science involves questioning! Questioning what you see, what you hear, what you feel… Asking
questions is strongly encouraged whenever it is deemed necessary.
➢ Upon entering the classroom, ALL STUDENTS MUST PLACE ANY AND ALL OF THEIR CELL PHONES
IN THE CORRECT SLOT ON THE CELL WALL CORRESPONDING TO THEIR SEAT NUMBER.
Students who are caught with their cell phone at any time in class will have their phone confiscated and
turned into the AP office.
➢ No teasing, roasting, or laughing at other people’s mistakes. Doing so will result in discipline.
➢ If you are not contributing to a friendly, safe environment for everyone, you are taking away such an
environment from everyone else in the class.

V. Grading Policies
➢ Each six weeks, your grade is divided as follows:
1. 6-Weeks Grade:
a) Attendance/Participation 10%
b) Homework (5-12 assignments or homework checks) 40%
c) Labs (1-4 labs) 25%
d) Quizzes & Exams (1-2 exams) 25%

VI. Dropping or Withdrawing

➢ If you would like to drop the course, you may do so within the first six weeks of the school year. Any time
after that, I will not approve your withdrawal from the course and that will become an issue with your
counselor.

VII. AP 2 Exam
➢ All students enrolled in AP Physics 1 as of 12/21/18 will be required to take the AP physics 1 exam. No
exceptions!
➢ The date of the 2018 AP physics 1 exam is Tuesday, May 7, 2019, in the afternoon.

I have read and I understand the AP Physics 2 syllabus for the 2018-2019 school year.
