English II 1st Semester Final Exam (Writing)

Hook. Freedom of rights, don’t let nobody boss you around. Martin Luther King, Eleanor

Roosevelt, and Malala Yousafzai all fought for human rights.

Eleanor Roosevelt claims that The U.N. should adopt the Universal Declaration of

Human Rights. She states, “ The long and meticulous study and debate of which this Universal

Declaration of Human Rights is the product means that it reflects the composite views of the

many men and governments who have contributed to its formulation”(1). It is a great document

because meticulous is a lot of work to it ,and composite makes the document more powerful and

more resources to the document. “Meticulous” extreme care,precise,thorough​.​ ​ It is also the

“Composite” made up of separate parts or elements. Roosevelt’s specific word choice of

“Meticulous” and “Composite” show that the two word are strong of a document. Throughout

the text Roosevelt Eleanor uses various forms of rhetoric to advance that purpose. One example

of this is when she uses Ethos when she says, “But in the older democracies we have learned that

sometimes we bow to the will of the majority.” The rights to do whatever we want to do.

Martin Luther King wrote, "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice

everywhere" (4).The evidence King uses to support this reason uses pathos.

This evidence would appeal to the clergymen by appealing to their sense of

emotion.Overall King's argument is successful in convincing his audience of

his central claim because people feel angry when they are treated unjustly.

Interrelatedness because king use this as we are family.

In MALALA’s SPEECH by Malala, the central claim/purpose of the text

is Education. Throughout the text Malala uses various forms of rhetoric to


advance that purpose. One example of this is when she uses Pathos when

she says, “Thousands of people have been killed by the terrorists and

millions have been injured.” This is an example of Pathos because it appeals

to the audience’s sense of Emotion by Pathos because it is use of emotion

how the people feel about it. Furthermore, Malala uses word choice to

advance her purpose when she says,
