PREREQUISITS
In order to take lessons from Eighty Eight Notes School of Music you must:
• Own or rent an instrument of your lesson package (i.e flute, saxophone, guitar, etc.) If you’re taking piano
lessons, you need to have an acoustic piano (upright or grand) that is tuned bi-yearly or an electronic keyboard
that is 88-notes and has weighted keys.
• Own a metronome
• A good piano bench (for piano lessons). You cannot use a kitchen chair, folding chair, etc.
REGISTRATION
All students must register with Eighty Eight Notes School of Music prior to beginning lessons. Upon registration there
is a one-time $55/student registration fee. This covers processing and the first set of books.
TUITION
Cost of books acquired after registration is not included in tuition. Any book purchases will go through
Eighty Eight Notes School of Music and cost of books rendered will be added to tuition. Please do not give your tuition payment to
your teachers! Tuition should be paid only to Mellisa Weinert, Director of Music, or sent via mail directly to the school mailing
address (if not paying via credit card or direct deposit).
REFERAL PROGRAM
You will receive a 25% discount off of one month of tuition for any new student that you refer. This is presented to you
as a percentage off your next month tuition.
LATE TUITION
As soon as tuition is late your time slot becomes available for any new incoming students until tuition is received.
**If you damage any equipment, you are responsible for repair or replacement charges.
Teacher absences: When teachers miss lessons due to Education Seminars and Conferences (such as the Music
Teacher’s National Conference and the MN Music Teacher’s Association) that teachers attend on behalf of the school,
those days are part of your tuition and will not be made up. Teacher sick days count toward the 6 unpaid lessons/year or
are traded with another available teacher. If a teacher misses for any other reason, they must make up the lesson.
1
88 Notes keeps a very tight schedule. Your lessons begin and end at the same time regardless of when you show up for
your lesson. If you come early to your lesson you will be expected to facilitate the waiting area. Parents please pick up
your children on time. We cannot be responsible for them once their lesson is complete.
***If you come without your books, teachers are not obligated to give you your lesson!
ILLNESS
Please do not come to your lesson if you are sick. Germs go from fingers to instruments, and on to the next student as
well as your teacher. Teachers reserve the right to ask you to go home if you come to your lesson ill. Thank you for
respecting the health of all of us. Missed lessons due to illness are not forgiven.
TERMINATION
Should you decide to discontinue lessons Eighty Eight Notes requires a minimum of one month in advance termination
notice. Please note that if you choose to quit mid-tuition you forfeit all remaining lessons. I will NOT reimburse you. If
you choose to notify the school in the middle or end of the month, you are still required to pay for a full month after you
have notified us. You are responsible to terminate with the school Director of Music (Mellisa Weinert, MAME, NCTM)
– NOT your teacher!
RECITAL/MUSIC MINGLES
Eighty Eight Notes School of Music hosts a recital twice yearly. This is not mandatory, but is strongly encouraged and
open to all students, regardless of age or level.
SNOW DAYS
We do not make up lessons missed due to winter weather. If school is cancelled please do not assume that your lesson is
also cancelled. Always call to be sure.
PRACTICE EXPECTATIONS
Students are responsible for practicing their full assignment and preparing the lesson that has been assigned to them.
Students must bring all books currently in use (even if no piece is assigned in a book that particular week). We condone
quality of practice rather than quantity. 10 minutes of focused practice is a better use of time than 20 minutes unfocused.
Teachers reserve the right to ask you to leave if you are not prepared for your lesson.
