Joe Satriani, Ex. 2: B minor legato descending line

This line, in the key of B minor, resembles some of Joe’s descending quick lines that can be heard on a lot of tracks (check out the album
“Surfing With The Alien” for more of this). It starts as a two finger semiquaver legato pattern, moving into sextuplets, semiquavers again
and then quintuplets and sextuplets together. The rhythm subdivisions will prove to be a challenge, as well as the consistency and stamina
needed to perform the run convincingly. Set yourself a target speed and practice towards your goal.

Joe Satriani, Ex. 3: G minor open string pedaling sequence

This final line utilizes legato to pedal between fretted notes and an open G string. It resembles a sequence that Joe plays in the song
“Crushing Day”. The run is not that difficult to perform and it can be easily taked to really high speeds. The most important aspect is wit-
hout a doubt the stamina of your left hand. This exercise will help you develop that as well as accuracy in fretting notes and in pulling off
to an open string.
