Tree kangaroos

Introduction

Tree kangaroos live in lowland and mountainous

rainforests in Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and the far north

of Queensland, Australia. They have adapted to life in the

trees, with shorter legs and stronger forelimbs for climbing,

giving them look like between a kangaroo and a lemur. Tree

kangaroos have 14 species inhabit the forests of Papua New

Guinea, Indonesia and Australia. They weigh up to 32 pounds

and measure about 30 inches, not including their 16-to-34-

inch tails.

Daily Life of tree kangaroos


Tree kangaroos are very long tail jumping along in the

forests. Tree kangaroos often eat food, while mother tree

kangaroos take care of their young, but most importantly

they like to play! Tree Kangaroos love to eat. They look for

some flowers to munch on or some moss to pull off the

trees to enjoy. The tree kangaroos are vegetarians. Their diet

mainly consists of tree leaves, flowers, grass shoots, ferns,

tree bark, and moss. Finding food is what tree kangaroos love

to do, in fact, they spend most of their time snacking. Food is

very important to the tree kangaroo.

The threat of tree kangaroo

Now, many tree kangaroo species are incredibly rare and

most are decreasing in number. The tree kangaroo is critically

endangered, they decrease in excess of 80% over the last 30

years. Tree kangaroos have suffered from habitat loss but

main reason is a hunting. Some people in areas where the

tree kangaroos live used to hunt them and use them as food.
They could soon be extinct do to cruel actions. Such as

habitat loss, predation, agriculture, production, and hunting.

We can help tree kangaroos do not become extinct by

reducing illegal hunting and loss of habitat. Raise awareness

of habitat loss and the effects of hunting and promoting and

managing protected areas.
