Project Title The Forest

Section 1: Rationale

Over the course of the level 3 diploma I have developed many different skills which help
me when creating films. I have much more information about technical codes now which I
can apply to my final project. But also I have problems with preparation and organisation
which have been helped by me completing tasks in the course. Overall I think I could have
done better and I am not completely happy with my productions, as well as my theory
work. There is definite room for improvement but documenting the issues I had will help
me to know where to improve first. I’m proud of other parts of my work though so I do see
improvements being made from the level 2 year at college.

Section 2: Project Concept

Will Sander is a teenage cinematography enthusiast and son of county Judge James Sander.
He has been spoiled all his life and given anything in a heartbeat. During his gap year abroad,
he wanders off trail from his woodland tour and finds himself in the woods alone. Will has
never needed to learn skills for coping with the outdoors and has always been an inside
person; now being forced to provide for himself. Armed with only his camera and some spare
batteries, Will must find a way to get out of the forest. This is the concept that I pitched,
whilst also explaining how my demographics are teens around 15+. I think that I have
challenged myself a lot in making a production on my own. If I had a choice and was there on
the day everybody chose groups, I would have put myself with others. I really enjoy working
as a team and feel like it helps me to not get distracted, but now I have the opportunity to
express my creation in the way I want it to be seen. I think it’s a great plot and would need a
lot of attention put into making sure it looks as good as it should.

Section 3: Evaluation Methods

For my evaluation I’m going to be using my peer feedback I have had since uploading
my work, to see what people thought was their favourite or least favourite scenes. I’ll
also reference my tutor feedback and weekly blog updates to reflect on the
development of my project. Comments and questions form my pitch video also show
me where I am working well or if I need to improve. I’ll break down all of my decision
making and explain how I came to making the final piece.

Proposed Research Sources and Bibliography (Harvard Format)

My Main sources of research are the film scenes and trailers of Troll Hunter and Chronicle.
I’ll reference these as well as any images I’ve taken from films to display on my website. I
also used an online survey as primary research, through classmates and family in order to
find a successful genre.

Trollhunter. (2010). [video] Directed by A. Øvredal. Norway: Filmkameratene A/S Film Fund

Chronicle. (2012). [film] Directed by J. Trank. Seattle: Dune Entertainment, Davis

Project Proposal – Unit 08

Project Action Plan and Timetable

This section provides you with an opportunity to outline your planning and organisation over a period of
weeks, and the activities you will need to carry out in order to successful complete your project within the
agreed time frame. It is important that you consider how you will balance ambition, time and realism in the
realisation of the project.
This should include what you are going to do, how you will do it and by when. The more time and thought you
give to
planning your project, the more successful it is likely to be. Remember to include: time spent sourcing
materials,
questionnaires, access to workshops, tutorial and peer group feedback, and where you will incorporate
independent study
