INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY GRANT PROPOSAL

Name of Applicant: Amy Alfonso

District/School: Cobb County/Shallowford Falls Elementary School

Date: 10/26/2017

Total Cost of Project: $9,219.30

Title of Project: Mobile Laptop Station to develop 21st Century Skills

To what organization will you submit this grant application in the future?: Cobb County School
District Tank Grant

I. Why is this project important (In 2-3 paragraphs, describe the need for the project and its
relevance to the shared vision for instructional technology)?

In understanding the need to provide more real-life, student-centered learning opportunities,

today’s classroom needs to be supplied with working technology devices. Learning and
developing new 21st century learning skills has become a vital need for all students in order
to be successful in our society today. For students to become proficient in these needed skills
they need to be immersed in opportunities for practice, but unfortunately today’s classrooms
are lacking the needed technology devices to support development of these skills.

To alleviate the burden of lacking devices, providing a mobile laptop station with ten student
laptop computers will allow for more opportunities to utilize newly learned 21st century
skills. In addition, these laptops will provide more opportunities for student collaboration
and use of learned research skills during problem based learning activities. According to
Suzie Boss, students need to have more opportunities to apply their knowledge to make a
difference. Including more access to devices within the classroom will also open more
problem based learning opportunities, which is something that our school has included in our
shared vision for success.

II. What would you like to accomplish (In 2-3 paragraphs, describe the project and list
instructional objectives/project outcomes.)?

● Learners will use the mobile laptop station to access Microsoft Office 365 to create and
maintain an online student portfolio.
● Learners will develop needed word processing skills through Office 365 access utilizing
the mobile laptop station.

● Learners will collaborate with other learners to create shared documents using Microsoft
Office 365 access through the mobile laptop station.
● Learners will evaluate their assignments and provide self reflection through their online
student portfolios using the mobile laptop station.
● Learners will develop a stronger sense of effective research techniques in order to
complete assignments/projects utilizing the mobile laptop station.

III. In what ways is this project an example of exemplary technology integration (In 2-3
paragraphs discuss your project regarding one or more of the following: LoTi, SAMR,
TPACK, TIM, etc.)?

Providing opportunities for my students to have access to Web 2.0 tools will prove to provide
higher LoTi level instruction. Currently my students are able to sporadically access needed
devices in order to complete project based learning and collaborating. This places much of our
classroom learning on a lower LoTi level. Increasing the level of LoTi for my students will
allow for more authentic learning opportunities to ensure more student engaged learning.

IV. How will you complete the work? (Describe how the project will be completed.)

A. Describe how the instructional objectives/project outcomes will be met (2-3 paragraphs).

● Conduct a student survey of previous experiences with Web 2.0 use and determine
grouping practices to provide needed skills.
● Organize a schedule in the class for each student to utilize the mobile laptop station for at
least two 30-minute time periods.
● Schedule time for students to collaborate on assignments/projects and provide feedback
to each other.
● Implement an online student portfolio project where students will decide what items to
include in their OneNote notebooks.

B. Describe the time involved (project length including amount of time each day/week).
Length of Project - one school year
Days per week - five
Hours per day - three

C. Describe the people involved (grade level/subject & # of students, teachers and/or staff,
other stakeholders).
General subject area - Reading/Writing/Language Arts
Number of students - one full class
Number of teachers and or staff - two

D. Describe the materials needed for the project.

IV. What is the timeline for assessing accomplishments and objectives/project outcomes (In 1-2
paragraphs, describe program evaluation procedure.)?

● Pre-Assessment of Web 2.0 tools experience at Beginning of Project:

○ Conduct a student survey of previous experiences with Web 2.0 use and determine
grouping practices to provide needed skills.

● Post-Assessment of Web 2.0 tools experience at End of Project:

○ Conduct a student survey of experiences with Web 2.0 use and determine most successful
piece of the project
○ Create an online student portfolio where the students will provide a self reflection piece
regarding this experience.

V. How will the students be impacted by the project (In 2-3 paragraphs, include details regarding
how the impact on students will be assessed and reported to students, parents, teachers, and
others.)?

Providing peer, self, and teacher directed reflection regarding the students’ portfolios will
determine the success of the project. The students will share their portfolios with their parents
and others during our “Portfolio Review Day, “ which occurs in May. This will be an
opportunity for students to share their accomplishments and authentic learning experiences.

VI. What is the proposed budget? Include information on the following:

A. Materials/supplies - Subscription to Microsoft Office 365: $0
B. Equipment - 10 Dell Laptop Computers: $9,219.30
C. Total Cost of Proposed Project - $9,219.30

V. List your supporting references.
