OBIS 1995 BUREAU OF INDIAN STANDARDS MANAK BHAVAN, 9 BAHADUR SHAH ZAFAR MARG NEW DELHE 11UUUz Price Gronp 4 Bitumen, Tar and Their Products Sectional Committee, PCD 6 FOREWORD This Indien Standaed (Third Revision) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards, after the draft finalized by the Bitumen, Tar and Their Products Sectional Committee had been approved by the Petroleum, Coal and Relavcd Products Division Council Indian Standard was first published io 1951 and was subsequently revised in 1961 and 1981. In the third revision, wo types of road tar, namely, Type A and Type B have been mentioned to cover the requirements of road tar for surface dressing, dense tar surfacings and for open graded premix carpets, with or without seal cout respectively. This has been done to ttilize the crude tar produced asa by-product of carbonization of coal, more specifically to get satisfactory performance ot ronds under ditferent climatic conditions prevsient in various parts of the country, The requirements for specific gravity, equiviscous Temperature (lor K 1-9), solening pole ( & By), GiStcation fractions, softening potat (R 4 B) oF pret, sesidue of Type A tar have been modified and given in Tzbte 1. The requirements of Type B tar have been, given in Fable 2, ‘Tne Scetional Committee responsible fer the preparation of this standard has taken into consideration the views of producers, consumers and technologists and has related the standard to the manvfacturing and trade practiexs foliowed ia the country in this ficid. Due weightage has also been given to the need for international co-ordination among standards prevailing in different countries of the world, For the purpose of deciding whether a particular requirement of this standard is complied with, the final valoe, observed cr valculaied, expressing the result of test or analysis, shall be rounded offin aceordance with (52: 1960 ‘Roles for rounding off numerical vatucs (revised)’. The number of significant places retained in the rounded off value should be the same as that of the specified value in this standard. Is 215: 1995 Indian Standard ROAD TAR — SPECIFICATION { Third Revision ) 1 SCOPE ‘This standacd covers two types of tar cach having five grades of road tars with different viscosity ran- ges Suitable for different types of road construction under the climatic conditions prevailing in various parts of the country, 2 NORMATIVE REFERENCES, ‘The following standants contain provisions which, through reference ia this text, constitute provisions, of this standard.
