Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

Timeline address UDL principles by being accessible for all students via home and school computers.
Timeline provides equal learning opportunities to all students. Timeline allows students to add url links
which can link videos to their timeline. Timeline also allows students to add images to each event.
Lesson idea implementation:
As the teacher I would introduce the topic being covered by asking the students “Who thinks they know what
was happening in 1754?” This will allow for discussion of the Revolutionary Time Period. This will allow
students to think about the different events they have heard about in the past that might have happened
during this period.

After discussion I will then proceed to show students how to create the Timeline using certain events that
happened during this time period. Students will have: Date of event, Title of Event, Description of Event & 1
fact about that event, and an image or link that represents that event.

Extension: Now that I have had students create their timeline with all information needed per event students
will then save and email me their timeline. I will then upload each student’s timeline up onto the classroom
blog where every student must look at least two timelines (not their own) and find 1 fact per timeline they
didn’t have on theirs.

Reflective Practice:
I feel like this lesson idea ties really nicely in with the standard. I feel like after this lesson student would be
able to talk about the event within the revolutionary war. Allowing them to physically create the events in
order can help them see the cause and effects of their history which for some may be very important. To
further extend this lesson I would have student’s timelines be presented to the school announcements.
