This will help prevent ‘malfunctions and/or damage to speakers or other devices. ‘Using the unit near power amplifiers (or other ‘equipment containing large power transformers) may induce hum. This is useful when giving piano lessons, o ‘when playing a piece for four hands. “The Headphones jacks are located beneath the key- board, at the far left. Connecting headphones will automatically mute the sound from the internal speakers. As a resull, you can play the piano with= out worrying about the neighbors. Hesdphone jack x2 To adjust the volume of the headphones, use the Volume slider on the piano, Please use stereo headphones, such as Roland RH= '30/80//120 stereo headphones. ‘The HP 550G provides for the use of a microphone. Using this, you can sing as you play the piano, enjoy Karaoke with the music data ete. For further details about Music Data, see pages 4and 39. ‘The Mic jack is located beneath the keyboard, at the far right. Connect a microphone to it, then you can hear the sound from it through the internal speak- ers. With headphones connected to the Headphones jack, the sound will be heard only through the head- phones, and no sound is heard from the speakers. Mic ack x1 To adjust the volume of the microphone, use the ‘Microphone Volume knob. To adjust the depth of the Echo effect, use the ‘Microphone Echo knob. * Be sure that the volume is not too loud for the neighbors You can use a microphane such as an optionally available Roland DR-15/25 microphone. When {you purchase a new microphone for the HP 350G, please consult the retailer where you have pur- chased the HP 550G. Notes on Using a Microphone * Before you connect the microphone to the piano, be sure to lower the volume. Ifthe volume is too high, noise may be heard from the speakers. ‘+ Howling (eedback) could be produced depend- ing on the location of microphones relative to speakers. This can be remedied by: 1. Changing the orientation of the microphone(s) 2. Relocating microphone(s) at a greater distance from speakers 3. Lowering volume levels. PANEL DESCRIPTIONS Front Panel 1. (p. 54) Computer Switch Switch for selecting the correct configuration when connecting with the MIDI or Computer connectors. (p. 51) MIDI Connectors Connect a MIDI device to these jacks, and you then can exchange performance information between the external MIDI device and the piano. Input Jacks Connect a sound generating device to these jacks, and you can hear the sound from that Unit through the HP's speakers (p12) 6, Output Jacks Allow you to output the piano’s sound to sound reinforcement equipment to oblain a more powerful sound. The HP-550G reproduces this raxonance “The amount of resonance can be changed to any of7 levels. Connecting with MIDI Devices ‘The HP 550G features MIDI and Computer connec tors to send and receive performance messages 10 and from an external device. By connecting external devices to these jacks, you will benefit from more Integrated ways of using the HP piano MIDI Connectors The HP 5506 features two types of MIDI connectors: MIDI OUT and MIDI IN. By connecting the piano to ‘an external MIDI device through these jacks, they can control each other. For instance, you can play an external device or change sounds on the external device from the piano.
